    My Trip Report

Just cannot keep up on the reports. We have a once per year trip planned every year in the heat of July. I was much better keeping up, but this one goes back to July 2019 :(.

This was going to be the first year our kids were sort of old enough to leave them alone so we originally started with just a 2 night trip. Got a pretty good deal partial comp at Mandalay Bay. Awesome. Of course it gets closer, kids get older, we decide we can do 3 nights. So booked an extra comp night at Planet Hollywood first night. (thanks to status match - diamond - no resort fee!)

For whatever reason thinking we were still in our 20s we booked a 6am flight. Of course that means waking up at 3am to get to the airport in time, yada yada. So very early morning.

We ended up to planet Hollywood close to 7am or a bit after. Attempt early checkin, but no luck. They suggest diamond which opens at 8. I tried to talk wife into just checking bags and coming back later, but she was content to wait.

Right at 8, diamond checkin opened and we went in. First time checking in anywhere as diamond. Lady was very nice and typed for a while to find us the only very last room available! Woohoo!.

Well that woohoo was shortly lived. That room was very clean. Overly clean. The fumes from the cleaner burned off nose hairs and butt hairs at the same time. Whatever, we were happy to have a room and leave our bags. Must have just been freshly cleaned we thought.
So we always go to mon ami gambi for our anniversary, so perfect time, perfect breakfast, awesome. Anyways, time to go downtown! I was hoping to just go for uber, but wife was a bit frugal and we opted for sdx. We have done it multiple times before and it is always a bit fun, but always some strange.

Downtown always fun. We sometimes stay there sometimes not, but always go for some time. Got some nice freeplay from southwest boarding passes. I play craps, wife played slots. Fun times had by all. We both won some nice wins to start off the trip!

    Very Nice Start!

Made our way to downtown cocktail room. Very good happy hours… almost too good! Foreshadow: think that did wife in ;( Or guy next to us at the bar ruffeed her, but probably not. Drinks were just that good!

Somehow made our way back to planet hollywood on the sdx. Room still stank! Wife was out, but went back down to diamond to see about changing rooms. Luckily there was another room down the hall on the same floor. Had to rush in 30min since the key was going to deactivate. A bit of a challenge with the drunk wife situation, but it all worked out!

Next day slow start. Luckily double booked, so no hurry. Eventually make our way down to mandalay bay. Only to find out it is also the location of the NFB conference. Yes, the national federation of the blind conference. And all attendees were there! It was quite a sight (pun intended). There were many sticks a floating and clicking. The elevator bank was something else! A bit like starwars lightsabers fighting each other, but only on the ground. Trying to be a bit PC, but it was really awesome to see. Not only that, but the elevator rides were something else too. People were trying credit cards to swipe instead of room keys, etc, but all the "sighted" people were crazy helpful. It was quite touching actually. Mandalay employees were also awesome and very helpful.. Within the restaurants, table games, whatever.

Overall it was crazy...so many sticks clicking! But again it was awesome to see!. Some people had apps which would let them know their surroundings, others just made it work, others took and accepted assistance, some were just fine. It was just pretty awesome to see so many people helping out.

Next day, off to the Mandalay pool! We ended up reserving chairs since we didn't know what to expect and it was a great decision. Will always try reservations only to avoid the awkward wander around walk. We were right in front of the wave pool.

We have a few traditions - one is to go to a comedy show. We've been to brad Garrett's club in recent years, but this year, jimmy kimmel opened up so went for that. Was hoping for free diamond tickets, but unfortunately the performer (nikki glaserr) did not approve of any comps so we ended up paying. It was a fun show and a fun club. Will be back.

All in all, another wonderful trip. This year it will be 21 years anniversary and I don't know how many years in a row. But we're committed to once/year in July!

One last shot, but a bit too late. Last day before flying out went to Primrose. I ordered a smokey something drink without realizing that thing was going to come out with a full on glass cage all filled with smoke! A bit embarrassing for breakfast. But it was damn good.

Can never complain about vegas. Another great anniversary, a few old memories, and a few new memories. Very nice. Love my wife. Can't wait for 2020 trip (hopefully corona is contained by then!)

Thank you for the great report! I wonder what the cleaning smell issue was with the room.

Hoping the Easter Bunny delivers Jackpots!

It's still a mystery. When checking in, the front desk clerk was very happy to let us know it was the very last and only room available. It made sense once we got there. My guess is that someone did a real number on the room somehow (don't really want to know ) and they had to do some sort of deep deep clean or something.
