Booked this vacation a month ago because hubby was actually taking a vacation, and he was up for Vegas (I go 4-6x a year by myself). 1 week before this T-time, I fractured my ankle.... opps, can't walk now --- what do I do? Well, went to a second doc who put an aircast on my foot and I stood up and WALKED for the first time in a week. Trip on!! I was scheduled on the painful 640am flight Wednesday. Hard to get up, but very easy sailing once there. Hubby wasn't coming until 430pm that day, so I had the day to myself. Got over to dollar, got a car, and high-tailed it to GVR. It was 8am, and I had a 241 buffet - so it was breakfast time. Walked (hobbled) around there for a while trying to find my favorite slots, and donated about $100 playing the machines that normally treat me so well. Time to head downtown to MSS. It's 10am and too early to check in so I just hang around there for awile playing on the addictive gold fish machines. Room is ready at 1pm and I get to crash for a few hours before I have to go pick up hubby at the airport. It's 5pm when I finally find him and we go over to the Paris because we both have $10 off coupons. The buffet was good - not great-IMO for dinner. I like breakfast @ Paris, but then again, it's kinda hard to screw up breakfast too terribly. Back downtown to get hubby settled, and we took a walk (hobble) over to Freemont street. We had fun just walking around and I tried to sneek a bit of game playing in. Husband didn't want to game and I don't find it fun when someone is either staring over my shoulder or waiting for me. (Hence, solo trips) He was in bed early the first night, and I stayed down at MSS casino and played a while on goldfish. DAY2 For his birthday gift, I got him a Grand Canyon trip, so the bus was there to pick him up at 630am. Yeah, I had the day to myself. Since I could only hobble, I didn't get much done, but I thank my luck we were downtown. Walked over to Golden Nugget to get tickets for Defending the Cavemen that night (241), did some starbucks, then when over the to Freemont and shot craps for an hour or so. Too much fun!! Played around at various casino's with no big wins. When hubby came back that night we grabbed the MSS buffet (241), before we headed out to the play. Play was great. It really made me understand the thinking behind my husband's a$$hole behavior, and I think he learned a few things about women, too. He's been very nice to me since we saw that play - hehehehe. After the play we went back to Cal through MSS and I found a winning gold fish machine at the Cal and made some bucks. Early evening tonight. DAY3 Up and at 'em, it was time to go the Valley of Fire. We got on the road, and when he saw how far it was he didn't want to go so we went to Hoover dam (boring to me, plus I can't walk), and then stopped at Lake Las Vegas to check out the shops. Back to MSS, he went to lay down and I went down to gamble, gold fish, wheel, and craps. Had dinner at the Pullman Grill, which I should have charged to the room because it would have been comped. I forget. After dinner, Hubby went up to the room, and I went down to play and it was one of those "up $200, down $250" kind of nights. DAY4 Early morning flight for Hubby, so I took him to the airport, went back to MSS and had lunch at the 777 brewpub and cleaned up, packed up and checked out. All was comped. I had $25 in free play from ElCortez and 4 hours to kill, so off I went! Valet it, and I'm playing my games with great luck. My last $5 of freeplay I hit $295 on a 1 cent Cleopartra machine. The next Cleopatra machine I got $230. This was in my first hour in the casino, and I had 3 more hours to play! Made $10 on a one roll craps hand, then had breakfast/lunch (comped) at Careful Kitty's. Just puttered around there until 5, and It was time to head to the airport. Earlier my hubby kept insisting you get a cheaper gas rate if you let the car rental do it. I told him I didn't ever experience that, so he insisted we should not get gas. Well, they charged us $29 for gas @$6.99 a gallon. Won't be doing that again. Overall, I had a great time. I was blessed with having the trip downtown because it would have been much harder on the strip with my fractured ankle. The slot gods were kind to me on the last day, and that always makes you want to go back so much faster. And, of course, my hubby and I are getting along great. So overall, yes it was a good trip for me.
Glad to hear you had a good trip. Your husband may be right about the gas if your rental car company offers a pre-rental fuel option. Essentially, you pay for the gas in the tank at a slightly less than market rate, then can return the car without paying the $6.99/gallon. To make this work, you have to return the car essentially running on fumes or you paid for a bunch of gas you didn't burn.
Texas Pam, I'm impressed with how you managed to have a solo trip within your couples trip! Seems to me you managed to dump your husband for 2/3rds of the trip, lol. BTW, I have successfully gotten a room around 10am or so on a couple of occasions at MSS. I couldn't be sure from your report whether you inquired or not. And you can add me to the very small list of people who isn't overwhelmed by the buffet at Paris.
Now you are what I call a Vegas Trooper...broken ankle and still managed!! Impressive!!! Your DT trip sounds like fun, and is helping my growing interest in that area. Thanks for the great TR!
props to you girl ... you were able to enjoy even with a fractured ankle... congrats on those hits on the cleopatra machines!!... and i love mss 777, its my favorite brew pub in vegas!...
Doing Vegas on a broken ankle; that deservers a and you're right winning on the last day always makes you want to go back that much sooner.
