I've been to Vegas almost 50 times. I've hit one Royal Flush, at Paris, for $1000. Sad.

Don't abandon hope boxofbirds - what monkeyshed failed to say is that while they have been to Vegas almost 50 times they have only played one hand of video poker and a Royal was dealt

Ha! Gosh, I wish. :haha: That being said, I do probably only put a couple hundred in every trip. I play a lot of different games.

Couple hundred dollars or couple hundred hands per trip? If it was the latter, only one royal in 50 trips is pretty good actually.

Hands played and luck matters most on whether you'll find a royal. A Royal cares not about number of trips, time, or money amounts. I typically have played enough hands to average about one Royal a year since 2012 or so, plus probably a couple more "royal cycles" for 2001-2011. I'm close to on pace with 9 royals so far.

40k hands, the approximate length of a "royal cycle", is a lot of hands. It's 100 hours of single line play at a decent 400 hand/hr clip.

My only hope for a royal rests on this. I only play when I'm in Vegas, and I play quite a bit and usually triple-play, but I really have no idea how many "cycles" I've put in. My gut feeling is it is more than one cycle, but it could easily be less than one cycle... and of course with bad variance, one could go a few cycles without hitting anything.

My actual VP loss definitely suggests that I'm "due" for a royal or two to get me back to what my theoretical loss should be.

Following Tringlomane’s comment on the whims of a royal, A machine at the 4queens bar once dealt two royals in about 30 minutes. Unfortunately not to me.

I have 11 so far in 56 trips - all but one of them on bartops (I know the profile says a lower number of trips - I can't figure out how to edit it).
I'm a very casual VP player - just lucky, I guess.

I have hit 4OAK a few times, once 4 Aces's with a kicker (2K) and couple of times (2/3/4 w A) $800. That said, most memorable now is the Royal I got last weekend. 4K, tax free as I hit it in the Bahamas, thank you very much!

Congrats! And I added that game to the bartop sticky too because I had incomplete info on that bar. :evillaugh: I don't play much TDB at all, but I'm still waiting on ANY premium quad. Yikes!

    Hard Rock Luxe Bar

Please help educate me in this regard... what’s so bad about an 8/5? I see pictures on here all the time of people playing 7/5 and 6/5’s... I always avoid those. I can find 9/6 out on the floor, but then I’ll see a cocktail-waitress once an hour and can’t watch the ballgame. I generally play for a couple hours and not incredibly fast, as I watch a game much of the time and talk as well. Help me understand what I’m missing?

I’m just not much interested in playing in some shit club on a machine hidden well in the back so I can get 5 more quarters on a Full House that I’ll hit 2 maybe 3 time’s during my session. I like to play at a comfortable bar where the drinks flow and the “experience” is better.

I’m all ears though and know you’re very good at putting yourself in the best position possible to be successful.

I was playing eight lines on a 100 hand VP machine about six months ago. I held three to the royal and filled in for two royal flushes for my first hand pay....was pretty sweet.
