If you want to play blackjack with the locals, the Longhorn is a great choice. Notfromconcentrate is right on all points. $2 blackjack, good dealers, and ample refreshments spell a good time. $200 max bet and no black chips. Food is also very good.

    Gotta win this trip.

Not a carny version. Real, legit blackjack where dealer 22 is a bust hand.

Looking forward to hearing about what you think of the place!

One minor correction... Max bet is $100, not $200.

    O’Sheas is good fun.

$5 mins during the day/afternoon, rising to $10 in the early evening. The Pit Boss grandfathered us for the next shoe at $5.

Sadly it was 6:5 but at $5 per hand you’re not giving up that much.

Great music and you can get the Frozen Baileys comped.

Updating on Longhorn, it’s $5 min and not $2 min anymore, as of a couple of months ago :(

Hey NFC, have you ever tried counting there? Just for fun I think I might try spreading 1-50 there on my next trip. Table max is $100 or so right?

Not sure if you saw my last post, but they've upped the minimum now to $5, it's not $2 anymore. I'm fairly certain the max is still $100, so it would only be 1-20 at most.

When I counted, I only ever did double deck and maaaaaaaybe six-deck games on occasion. Virtually never eight-deck, I didn't have the attention span for it. So I never bothered at Longhorn.

What I will say is that they are pretty sweaty there, I've had checks-play called on me with $25 and $30 bets. Their personnel are also very sharp. One of their dealers Robert (from Winnipeg, MB) openly talks about how he used to be a counter himself, and he can rattle off edge percentages like a pro. The good is that he's one of my favourite blackjack dealers by far, and he's part of the reason why I would play there again despite the minimum going up to $5. The bad is that they'll be able to spot it from a mile away.

1-20? Where's the fun in that, lol. Maybe I will have to stop by and talk to Robert. I'd love to hear the story of how he went from being a competent counter to a dealer at one of the less financially rewarding casinos in Vegas.

For a bit more of a good time in spreading large, Jerry's Nugget always has a $3-$300 game going... and it's dealt out of a shoe now, as their CSM broke in the fall. Hand-shuffled too, if you can realize an advantage from that as an added bonus :)

Thanks for the tip. I was never backed off at Jerry's back in the day, so I should rectify that. I'm guessing if I was playing table max they'd have everyone in the place watching me, but like you said, if I was using other tactics and not spreading much, they might let me go for a while. When they back me off I can go play some bingo with the blue hairs. That's more my speed these days anyway. ;)

The Orleans has the same BJ as the Gold Coast. Both places are tops with me.

I play BJ almost exclusively at Cortez for this reason. I’m usually playing $25 a hand or more but that’s not enough to get decent rules at most strip establishments and if I’m on a bad run and need to grind through a tough streak I can lower the bet to $5 and conserve bankroll.

    Agreed.
We shop around and Cromwell has the best rules you can find on the Strip at $10 or $15 tables. The dealers have almost always been engaging. Good drink service. And when people are lined up to get into Drai's the entertainment is non-stop!

I've mostly played blackjack downtown -- and like @topcard I prefer El Cortez due to the low limits combined with great rules....but as far as a party atmosphere....no. Many of the dealers barely talk to you. Which, if you're a counter, that's pretty good.
I am curious if these party pits are all just scantily clad dealers, or are there actually places on the strip/elsewhere that have good music pumped in, and people are having so much fun they're actually just standing at the table instead of in their seats? At my local, they spread a game like that on weekends, and it's a ridiculous amount of fun. Great tunes (loud for some), fun dealers, great rules, and low limits. Too bad the drinks aren't free.

Planet Hollywood will have the best atmosphere. Dj and dancers every night of the week. Pleasure pit dealers are knowledgeable and not just there to wear less clothes.

Just me, but when I'm playing BJ, I don't want dancers, a DJ or loud thumping music.
To me, that's just a distraction, part of the new game the casinos play to the younger crowd.
That shit has a place in Vegas, for sure, just not when I'm concentrating on my game.

I "love" how the OP asks about the Strip but many have to contribute about non Strip places.:rolleyes2:

    Are you new here? :D

I understand some people don’t like livelier louder places but there really isn’t much to concentrate on when playing blackjack. Just basic strategy and stay or hit LOL. The rest of the time people watching or chatting with the table is all there is to do.
