I'm still fairly new to the world of MGM, have stayed at Aria 3x and still haven't even seen the pools. I am thinking of reserving a cabana next weekend for half a day as a surprise for my kids and am not sure whether to book the morning (10am - 1.30pm) or afternoon (2.30pm - 6pm). At this time of year, when does the sun hit the pool area? Also, which pool would be better, Sky or Resort? Thanks in advance for suggestions and advice.

Something different to consider is renting a cabana at Cosmo pool, next door because you get the $ in food and beverage and it is for the entire day. That way everyone is happy.

  • #divorced and sneaking in a no play stay at CP before all comps are gone
  • Canada Day and 4th of July all in one!

Oh, great piece of info! I'll look into it, thanks!

You may have to put $$$ down for the cabana but on the day of, you can ask them to reverse the charge on your CC and then room charge the same locked in rate. Then you can use RCs and/or backend comps.

This half day rental is new and complete bullsnot, IMO. With kids I’d probably say go for early and you can squat a few chairs for after they give you the boot. For adults, the times are insane. No one is up at 10 when you’re rolling in at 3am or later the night before. Now I have to pay 2x to stick to our usual routine. I’d prefer they knock a few bucks off for full day.

Signed, the chairman of the 11-3, maybe 4pm and rarely 5pm, cabana boys

TBH, a half day rental is fine with me, I don't want to waste an entire day at the pool when there's money to be won inside. Full day rentals are still available and from what I can tell, the cost of a half day is half the cost of a full day, they aren't adding a few extra dollars. I'm just trying to figure out if the sun reaches the pool by 10am this time of year at Aria or vice versa.

@pinklime in case you are temp. sensitive for the pool this is the NWS forecast for this upcoming weekend. There are some unseasonably cool systems passing thru.

Saturday Night
Mostly clear, with a low around 55.
Sunday

Monday

Thanks for the info, it seems the forecast had changed since I last looked at it. ☹️ I was planning on booking a cabana for the Monday which looks to be the best day and at least it's still warmer than where I'm from.

I doubt it. The sun elevation at 10:00am on April 19 is only 35 degrees up from the horizon, that's a shallow angle. And the pools are west of the building and the building is pretty tall.

This is a satellite view. I don't know what date it was taken, but you can tell it was probably taken in the afternoon because the shadow line of the corner or the building (in red) points south, which is one of the directions the sun moves during the day (it moves south and west).

So if this pic had been taken in the morning,
1. The sun would have been lower in the sky
2. It would have been more north and more directly opposite the front of Aria
3. So the shadow would have been longer and the angle more horizontal

So for later this week, I would pick an afternoon slot.

Super informative, there's no way I would have been and to figure it out on my own. Thanks!

I've packed like it's summer lol

but with a couple of sweaters thrown in.
Those would be for the casino air conditioning!

You should be nice and warm by Monday. I just love T storms in Las Vegas, they are beautiful. My avatar says it all.

Sky Pool has the best cabana setup. If you go in the morning there maybe a bit shade, but especially the ones with the back towards Liquid would be my preference. Not so for the afternoon as Liquid will have a DJ and the noise really affects the Sky Pool Cabanas. I then would pick any one of the cabanas at Yucca pool as this is the farthest from the noise.

I was curious so I went back and fiddled around with those solar calculations and it looks to me like at 10:00am probably more than half of the pool area would be in shade; by 11:00am probably more than half would be in the sun and at noon it would be close to what the original pic looks like.

And here is your updated forecast for Paradise, NV (Strip)

Friday
A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly before 11am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 69. North northwest wind 9 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph.

Friday Night
Mostly clear, with a low around 52.

Saturday
Sunny, with a high near 75.

Saturday Night
Clear, with a low around 54.

Sunday
Sunny, with a high near 83.

Sunday Night
Mostly clear, with a low around 59.

Monday
Sunny, with a high near 87.

“By Sunday, forecast highs are near or slightly above normal, and hold fairly steady into next
week. The synoptic pattern in the extended will favor inside sliders
or shortwaves passing well to our north. As these move by, periods of gusty winds are possible.

There will be two 19 yr olds and one 21 yr old in my group, I'm sure they wouldn't mind the music/noise. Good info for future trips without them. Thanks.

Thanks to your calculations I've requested the cabana for the afternoon.

I like having my own personal weather forecast! 😄 Thanks, I've asked for Sunday afternoon.

This doesn’t apply to the Aria pool but hotel architecture and time of day matters. I went to check out the pool area last Summer in late afternoon at Red Rock. Bless the architect for wanting to create views of the cliffs of the Spring Mountains but the concave sweep of the hotel tower focuses the sun’s rays into a literal Death Beam of heat at parts of the pool area. It was unbearable.
