I promise I searched, but did not find a definitive answer to this:

My Gold just expired, so I'm back down to Sapphire. Staying at Vdara this weekend, which as we know is valet only - can I flash my old card, or will they check the expiration date on it and charge me (looks like $25/day)?
I probably will only make it back to Pearl during the trip (green-chip level), so I guess I could just self-park at Aria or Bellagio when I make it back to Pearl?

Don't they use a kiosk when you leave that reads your card? I would think it would read the expiration date, too..

They'll let you in, but will also remind you that it's $25 a day.

I believe that all mLife valets have the "swipe-o-meter" that checks the card.

Confirmed by the valet - they swiped the card to check the current status

Less of an expired issue - but the CURRENT status when they swipe it.

Rather than start a new thread, I thought I'd resurrect this old one to ask a similar question:

I have current Gold MLife status and I will be staying at NYNY in a few weeks. I'll be sharing a room with a friend who is driving in and will likely get into town a few hours before my flight arrives. He doesn't have any MLife status. Could he park his car with vallet, give them my name, then we he leaves I can be with him and give my card?

I'm thinking that would work - you don't pay until you pick up the car, so if you're with him, your card should take care of it - maybe when he drops the car off, have him leave your name (I think they usually ask for a last name)?

Well I know you can do this with self park because I've done it myself. When he goes in, he'll get a ticket. When he exits, discard the ticket and have him use your card to swipe at the exit.

I think if he just gives your name at valet entrance, then he can show your card when picking up the car and you're set.

Don’t discard the ticket for self park put it in a self pay machine then insert your Mlife card. It will save you hassle as you exit as sometimes it won’t let you out with Mlife if that’s not how you came in.
So either use your card in and out or get a ticket and use your card in self serve machine to validate.

The machines do not care WHO has the card.
And, pretty sure the machines do not look at the color of the card, or even the expiration date printed on it. They look up your number and figure it out from there. So, you can use an old card - but only your current status matters.

Interesting, I've never had the gate deny me exit with a card with status and no ticket, but that's good advice just in case.

I have had similar situations when I don't have my card handy when I check-in to valet park. Just take the ticket and use your card on the way out.
