Anyone know if this is just Detroit? Since mid-Sept wife and I can't use just my card at the same time. And Detroit won't link accounts. Will have to do next time in LV...

in LV we are still able to use multiple cards. What if you are playing 2 machines next to each other, you should be able to have a card in each machine??

Nope. Been a solid month. Have tried different machines. New cards, opposite sides of the casino.... etc. Must just be something here. Detroir always gets hosed.

@gleng2 We do get the short end of the comps here in Detroit, but I prefer it over Greektown or Motor City.

A host in Detroit told me earlier in the year that MGM Detroit is one of their most profitable properties and they do not have to extend as many offers or have the same conversions/multipliers for Express comps or point play as they do in Vegas. She said the hotel is always booked especially when a sports team takes up at least 2 floors and the casino is always packed. When was the last time you were there on a weekend and saw an open table? Even during the recession, the place was still busy. I know some dealers and management on a personal level, they lament on the numbers of regulars who are there 5 days a week or so.

Everyone that I talk to has had their hotel offers dwindle and their free play amounts slashed including myself. If I owned that place, I would do the same thing. No need to entice people when they will walk in the door no matter what.

Detroit MGM gets tons of local play, in a sense it is really a local's casino, and not a destination casino. Comps, offers, rules are all different when dealing with a local clientele that comes almost daily. A lot of their guests are daily players

I had this issue at Beau Rivage earlier in the year....others told me that they didn't experience this being there after I was....perhaps you used FP and didn't take out the card after using it so that the system still thought you were on FP....

My husband used my card at the Beau earlier this year while I played Blackjack with no issue. However, if we were both playing slots or VP one of us wasn’t permitted (by the machine).

Just wondering, how do you know this? Is there a message when you insert a secondary card? Or does the card reader go red instead of green? I’d like to know what to look out for.

Just had this happen in Luxor.

Went to get a 2nd card and it zero'ed out the first, reader goes red.

Went back and specifically asked for two cards to use at the same time and no issues at all.

Maybe you just need to be specific as process may dictate to cancel out old ones unless directed otherwise by the customer

    Good luck!

Sounds like MGM2020 strikes again. Enforcement of one card per player to reduce front-end and back-end comps.

On our last trip in November 2018, I had this happen at the Mirage. I put my wife's card into the machine.. the reader went red.. with a prompt that said essentially that "this card is currently in use in another machine.." Pulled hers put in mine and proceeded to play with no problem.. we played same cards on other machines for the rest of our trip with no problems, so I figured that the monitor was only on certain machines..

Your right on all points. I do have to say MGM DET has been liberal on free rooms hit a $1,800 jackpot and had 5 corner suite nights. Im only a status matched gold from Caesars diamond with 15k tier credits (at Detroit) a year. (matched in AC)

Maybe, I will try that. The other cards aren't bad though, they work as soon as the first card is pulled

Wow, this IS weird ! I was at MGM Detroit last Sunday, and when I put my card in, it worked normally. Then when I went to play my freeplay the card in play message popped up, and I could not use it. This happened about four or five times on different machines. Then it finally stopped, and I was able to use my freeplay. This sounds like a computer glitch , possibly MGM system wide. Bob

( I don’t play in Detroit, and sorry mlife is doing that in Detroit).

Agree with @WelshBlonde about player cards in Vegas.

Speaking only of mlife in Vegas, this has happened from time to time over the years when using 2 cards on same account at the same time . Both players remove card and move to another machine. Somehow the system glitches and when card is reinserted indicates another card is still in play. When this happens (infrequently), the only fix is to go to players desk, have them reset the account to clear the stack and print new cards (I get 3, lol). The old cards should be destroyed.

Also, now I always hit the cash out button several times even with zero credits, this seems to help in recognizing the card has been removed.

And at mlife, in order to activate FreePlay, only one card can be in play to activate it or it will error out indicating either ‘free play is unavailable’ or ‘card in use’ type of message.

    My experiences.

This is interesting. One of my local buddies uses my players club cards all of the time because they are always going to MB for concerts and use it for free parking. I did a quick overnighter last week and I get a call from him telling me that the card he's been using is not working at the MB parking garage. I wonder if maybe it was because I was playing a machine while he was trying to use it?

Question. I want to book a room at mgm Detroit. I have plenty in comps, and was curious could I book my room beforehand with my comps? Or do I have to put a deposit down on a debit card first and once I’m there use the comps for the remaining balance. AND! I want room service. I read something that someone charged room service to their rewards card and got to pearl status. How is this possible?
