Happy Friday, all! I know this topic has been posted about in the past, but i wanted to cut through all the confusion and just get some straight answers. I recently signed up for and just received new MLife and TR credit cards (the basic ones with no annual fee). I have great credit and am mainly concerned with getting free parking (hopefully valet) going forward, as well as anything else i can get just by using the cards to buy things. I was hoping the VMB community could help me understand a very straightforward way of doing this, and also help me benefit as much as possible from other perks of having the card. I have info of a lot of the basics of these cards, but like i said i just want to know very simply how to get each perk and whether i need to keep buying things with the cards once i spend enough to move up one tier. Thanks in advance!!

The best thing about the Mlife card is that it guarantees you will never go below pearl status as long as you have an active credit with card along with the parking bonuses ect.. Also you can do the 3 month promotion where you can earn 100 in express comps if you purchase 1000 dollars worth in 3 months. Then you have the basic point to dollar ratio like those other credit cards where you earn comps dollars for everything you buy.

TR Visa will get you Platinum level, which (at this time) get you free valet.

mLife Mastercard only gets you Pearl level, which only gets you free self parking. You must be at Gold level to get comp valet.

Note that with both of these cards, AFAIK, you do not get the Tier Credits of Platinum or Pearl, so if you want to level up, you must start from 0.

Other than parking and tier status, I see close to zero benefit of these cards compared to so many other cards out there that give either cashback of 1-2% or points that can be used lots of other places (vs ONLY at the casino).

If you are an infrequent LV traveler, the ability to keep points (RC and Express Comps) "alive" may be a slight advantage.

I have the TR Visa for this reason only. High interest rate, little perks otherwise & the worst thing IMO is that there is no auto payment option for people who may carry a balance (which I don't advise, given the terrible interest rate). I usually go 2x/year, but not necessarily at intervals that would keep my points.

I suppose now that pay to park has been implemented, the "perk" of no parking fees for Platinum is a pro.

There are definitely better rewards cards out there, but there's no "One Size Fits All" card out there, so some may find one card more beneficial than another.

Will activate the card before my upcoming trip. Will activation automatically get me the benefits or do i need to spend X amt of $$ before those kick in? Not counting on free parking this month but hopefully next trip. What i got from the cards does talk about spending certain amounts to get a big windfall of points, and the TR card offers different free benefits off the bat (some, like 2 buffet passes, apparently expire after 6 months, not sure if others do).

You will be upgraded to platinum if you make a purchase in the first 90 days of having the card and I think it took a week or two for me to notice the change in my TR account, but they say it can take up to 30 days. You also have to spend $5000 in the calendar year to get platinum for the next calendar year (i.e. Spend $5000 before December 2017 and be platinum in 2018).

IIRC, the 6 months begins when they issue the card, but I imagine the card is sent pretty quickly after approval. The initial benefits of applying for the card have changed a bit since I signed up a couple years ago.

Just keep an eye on your TR account to see the status change.

Do the tier credits earned from using your MLife CC expire on Oct. 1st just like the tier credits earned from gambling and resort charges?

Yes tier credits expire I think every year on sept 30th or October 1st, however if you have the card you will always maintain your pear status at worst and have an extended period of your express comps.

One benefit of earning Reward Credits from the card is that when you use the credits to pay directly in many of the TR restaurants you do not get charged the sales tax since it is considered a comp. That saves 12% if I am not mistaken.

I don't have the MLife Card but do have the Total Rewards one. They are always giving bonus offers which help rack up your points and make them equal/above other reward cards. Recently we earned 10x reward credits outside of total reward destinations. That was a really easy $50 in reward credits to earn.

Of course will all credit cards rewards it is important to pay off your balances in full or it is not worth the rewards.

That fact that the Mlife cards earns tier credits has my interest in the future. It would be nice to make up for tier level shortfalls for the year.

I got the Total Rewards card back when Platinum still waived the resort fees. I'll charge something on it once a month just to extend my expiration date for my RC's. Lately they have been having nice offers of RC's and TC's for using the card. The offer for this month of 300 TC's for every two charges at a TR destination is awesome deal. Again not carrying a balance is the only way either card makes sense. I have been giving some thought on the Mlife card just for the bump to Pearl and to extend my RC's since I do a majority of my gambling at Caesars properties.
