Quarter mile point in the season so it's time to check in on my Win Total bets. Last year, I was 4-2. I'll be lucky to get that this year.

First, the positives: The Giants seem a lock to go under 81.5 at this point. They look terrible and even if Blake Snell comes back at some point, he was atrocious when he did pitch. He could be a major bust for them. Plus, the team is way down the list for team averages with the 17th best batting average and the 26th best ERA. I guess I could be patient and say they just need another year, but how many years does Zaidi get to build a playoff team—only one playoff berth in six years—granted that was a great year with 107 wins, but they still couldn't beat the hated Dodgers. Even more of a lock than the Giants are the Orioles to get over 90 wins. They currently have 26 wins, which at that rate puts them over. Another positive is the Seattle Mariners who are currently on track to exceed 87.5 wins and I think their pitching staff will get me the money, but that one will be close, especially if the Astros start playing well. Also right now the Mets, after a red hot start, are showing their true colors and have dropped under .500. I need to them to fall under 81 wins. That one will be close as well.

Now the negatives. I was probably wrong about the Dodgers. They are currently on pace to win about 110, way over the 103.5 I bet them at. Oh well, maybe they'll fall asleep in September after they lead the division by 20. Finally, damn, I thought the Rockies would be better. I mean, they only have to win 60 lousy games but are currently on track to win only about 55.

If I think the Mets will be leading after the first 5 innings (and I do) why would I bet the MoneyLine @ -145 when I can bet NYM -0.5 @ -105.
Is it not the same thing?

No, if it’s tied you lose on -.5 but get your money back on the ML wager.

Good grief! How did I not make that connection.
    Thank you!

Still taking NYM -0.5. Always fade Patrick Corbin has been a successful mantra for me this year.

Great comment I heard on broadcast tonight.
We all understand that a really fantastic hitter only hits every 3 out of 10 at bats.
Yet we are astonished when those good hitters don't hit the ball

On a lighter note, the Orioles have a stronger pitcher on the mound today.

VDT, Orioles betting is hard for me. I’m such a fan, I can’t separate my heart from head. With that said, I would bet the under tonight.

It’s already looking good, Cedric Mullins is out of his funk. Top of the 2nd and you already hit your over. Plus this is the score.

    i hate "bobby bonilla day."

not because it reminds me of the ineptitude of the franchise that i love... but because it's kinda BS.

deferred contracts are very commonplace in MLB. Max Scherzer, for example, was paid $15 million yesterday - by the Nationals. The Orioles paid Chris Davis $3.4 million dollars, and will continue to do so for the next 17 years.

it also was a good deal for the Mets. the money saved was used to bring in Mike Hampton. Hampton pitched the Mets to the World Series. When he left that offseason, the Mets got a compensatory draft pick, which they used to draft a young kid out of Norfolk, VA named David Wright.

Some time in 2034, it will be "Shohei Day" when he collects $68 million a year for a long, long time.

Shohei to Bobby Bonilla on that day: "King Kong ain't got **** on me."

And the Dodgers still won’t have won a championship.
