So last time I was in Vegas (March Madness) I got introduced by a buddy to Mississippi Stud. I didn’t know really the “by the book” method to obtain the lowest house edge but have now been reading about it. I looked at the Wizard of Odds and it says when you have 2 cards and with any pair you are to 3x your bet. The expected values for pairs of 2s-5s are: 1x = 1.929796 and Raise 3x = 2.177959 I’m not sure I’m reading into this correctly in possibly terms I can understand can someone explain why I should 3x bet small pairs? I think I’m looking at it in poker terms as you have 2 cards there are 52 cards in the deck. Assuming nobody else at the table has your hand you have 2 outs out of 50 remaining cards to get one of your others 2s-5s. Basically a 4% chance on the first dealer flipped card. Basically the only hands that can improve your hand are two pair (pays 2:1), trips (3:1), full house (10:1), quads (40:1). Even if there are a roughly a full table and you confirm nobody else has one of your outs you only increase your chances of hitting an additional 2-5 on the first dealer card by about 1%. Why is it advantageous to 3x the first bet?
