Every so often, someone on this board will ask, 'hey, whatever happened to so-and-so, don't hear from him/her anymore". I too wonder what happens to people who have stopped posting. I certainly have lost touch with loads of cyber friends who have disappeared from T2V. Is it from lack of interest, gambling losses, marital discord, Vegas burnout, new chapters in one's life, disenchantment, boredom, geographic changes, death (some of us actually knew a poster named "Andsen", who died), etc? The message board world will always be somewhat of a mystery, as we know fellow posters only via a screen. But, when you no longer hear from someone you have gotten to know over the years, it's like losing an acquaintance.
So true. I've been doing the online thing since I was using a 300 baud coupler on the phone to use the old BBS systems. I'm old! Sometimes you have an idea why someone leaves like they get married or have a baby or take on a new job. Others move on to other travel destinations or just don't feel like they enjoy Vegas as much as they used to. I have some old timers I still wonder about. Sometimes someone is a prolific poster and one day *poof*. I like to think that they hit the big one and are living it up on some private island somewhere.
I know what you mean Andy. Most of the old school March Madness crew are gone. This board becomes a home for us. Some of us stay on longer than others. It's almost like we need a reunion to see how people that have moved on are doing.
Although I was never a big poster and didn't attend any of the March Madness events, I always enjoyed the personalities on here. I still come on here, usually right around time of upcoming trips and a little sad to see few names I recognize anymore. Fun group you have on here now though!
I Jimbucc....I loved reading the TR & seeing the pics from the MM & the Not Sober.... something I think in October. Those were the days of real hijenks and fun with some of from the board. I think I've read the some of the girls from that group still get together some but the legendary tales are no more. The board is still the best with so many great people but I sometimes do miss the crazy banter from several years back.
I think that this kind of turnover is something that happens with all online forum sites, regardless of the subject matter. Over time most people's priorities and circumstances change. My former business partner's mother used to be an avid Vegas traveler and logged around 15 trips a year. Last time I saw her she said she hasn't been to Vegas in years because she has found other types of vacationing that she now finds more enjoyable.
The old group still gets together 2x a year. Now in April and October. I apologize for the lack of details on the last trip. There was a bunch of stuff I couldn't get permission to share and then I lost my interest in writing a trip report and by the time I got back to it, it seemed like it had been too long to be interesting. I like the mix of people we always have on the board. The names change, but we have fun and crazy people with great trip reports, low rollers looking for a deal, long-time visitors who know all the ins and outs, high rollers who can show us how the "other half" lives, newbies who are super excited about their first trip and are trying to learn the tricks to make their trip awesome, etc. I saw Sin posting again. She's a rare bird and we need to keep her here. If for no other reason than her random nakedness during the meet ups.
long time on here... Hi Kids, I saw this post and thought...geez I haven't posted for awhile. I still pop in and read all the TR and all that. I am alive & kickin..just have no plans for Vegas at this time. Have been doing several cruises every year and go to Hard Rock Tampa for in-between gambling fixes I just saw the Hurricane Mikey is back blogging.....for those who remember him.. This is still the best board.....I just have nothing to contribute at this time. Keep up the good work Sonya !
I think he should be renamed WIMarty now... Just talked to him on the phone last night. He's doing well and living life
ive not been on this board long, but I have been on other boards for quite awhile. IMHO the main thing that happens to people is they either get burned out or their life changes to such a degree that they no longer are interested in the same things they were 5 years ago. I know I am really bad about sticking with something for a long period. WHen I plan a trip to Vegas I tend to hop on here alot more because just reading about things people post gets me more excited to go. WHen I dont have a trip planned I don't stop by nearly as much as I should, especially since I feel I have a lot of knowledge about Vegas that could be helpful to others. I used to be on a board that dealt with Pachislo slot machines maybe 6-7 years ago. I was constantly posting on that board, as I also sold them and made custom belly glass for the machines I sold. Back then the machines were fairly easy to get and sell via eBay. Now some type of restriction or possibly tariff has been imposed and you see much less of them than you did 6-8 years back. Ebay will hardly let you sell one on there without special permission. When I stopped buying and selling them I really stopped posting on that board from then on, its sad because there were tons of great people I had met on there and have lost touch with them!
He hasn't given up on Vegas. Just saw him out there in October and he's even being a snowbird out there as I type He did move from Illinois to Wisconsin.
I often times have the same wonderings about people on this board. I do not check the site daily but I would guess I am here weekly, may not post often but love reading things. I do not have any actual plans for a trip but am working on it so I maybe visiting more than the last few months. Working in a casino gives me a whole different outlook on casinos in general and also opened my eyes to the possibility to other destinations but not likely.
