Mirage and Mandalay Bay are set to close their hotel towers during weekdays from Nov. 30 through the end of December, referring to the move as a “business-demand decision.”

The resorts will keep all amenities open during this timeline, including the casinos, restaurants and such attractions as Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden at Mirage and Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay.

During the limited shutdown, rooms at Mirage and Mandalay Bay will close at noon Mondays and reopen at noon Thursdays. Delano, the non-gaming resort connected to Mandalay Bay, will continue to accept room reservations throughout the week.

“We are constantly evaluating occupancy levels and adjusting operations accordingly. With occupancy remaining low during the weekdays, we have decided to temporarily close hotel tower operations at Mandalay Bay and the Mirage Monday through Thursday, effective Nov. 30,” the company said in a formal statement. “Casinos, restaurants and other amenities remain open at properties throughout the week. While we do not currently expect the mid-week hotel closures to remain past December, we will continue evaluating business levels to determine how long they are in effect.”

MGM Resorts International has this month made a similar shift in room reservations at Park MGM, where the hotel tower is closed Mondays through Thursdays. Restaurants, attractions and the casino remain open. Specific hours for restaurants and other amenities at all the company’s resorts can be found at MGMResorts.com.

Is there a thread anywhere that lists the details of hotels that are closed mid-week? Maybe we should start one...

Not yet. Probably time to go through and get rid of some of the shutdown stickies and start new ones for whatever comes next, including these mid-week hotel closures.

    What do we have now?

    Park MGM
    Mirage
    Mandalay Bay

    Palazzo

    Encore

    Who else?

Even before the pandemic, the last few times I've been to either property, Mandalay Bay especially, they were pretty slow. I hate to see this, but I thinks it's going to become the norm for a good amount of LV properties ...Sad..

Just back from Vegas was there for about 11 days. 8th - 12th Luxor suite comped 4 days $39 RF using mlife rewards. Friday the 13th in Excalibur at mlife best rate and stayed off strip from 14th to the 19th local cheap hotel but still went to go play in Luxor and Mandalay most of the week. Mandalay was dead on weekdays but picked up around Thursday night and was busy all weekend. Vegas almost felt like a regular weekend but you can still see the limited capacity.
I decided to book Mandalay Bay for December since flights were $100 round trip and I booked using mlife rewards again Since it was all comped for the 14th - 18th December I booked a skyview penthouse that was comped all nights and $39 RF. Someone on twitter said they will move the bookings over to Delino to a comparable room. Just checked the Delano page and same days for that week are $61 a night and $39 RF for a king suite, was really looking forward to a penthouse for the extra space. Still no word on my booking but will check around next week.

We are booked at Mirage Dec 30 - Jan 3.

Any idea/guesses if they’d move us for one night or our entire stay? If they do, hoping for mid strip. I’m afraid they’d try and move us to MGM which we have no interest in doing.

I was booked for Mandalay Bay, Elite King Suite, for Dec 17th thru 22nd.

I got an email saying I've been moved to the Delano, but no mention of which room. I'll have to call them and see if I can get moved to a new hotel. If not, I'll have to cancel. No interest in the Delano, or even Mandalay Bay if they're closing. Who knows if the restaurants will even be open?

I see things haven't changed, we stayed at MB in August and it was slow during the week back then too. The midweek slowness then reminded us of when we have gone during the week between Christmas and New Years. Not being pool season, i can see them being even slower then summer.

@SAll11 Vdara contains privately owned condos too, so they probably can't. If it weren't for that, I'm sure Vdara and Signature would have been at the top of their list.

We are at the Mirage Jan 7-13th. Just talked to my host and he said he would know more in a few weeks as we might have to move for the last 2 nights which is okay.
You may be okay as they could be open on Dec 30th because of people coming in for New Years Eve. I would suggest calling the Mirage and see what they say--and also tell them that you don't want to stay at MGM at all and mention what hotel would be acceptable to you.

Update from my previous post. I saw the changes on the MGM app from my MB stay was now showing the Delano, it showed a scenic suite as the comparable room. An hour and a half ago I got a call from MGMresorts with the sweetest lady on the line calling to inform me about the change, I did ask if they can move me to another property suite closer to the middle of the strip for the same price as a compromise. But felt she was pushing me to stay in that area, probably to help out that end of the strip. She offered some food credit which is cool but I’m there from M-F and when I was there last week most food places are closed M-W. Asked if she could find a little bigger room without the need of the food credit so that me and my fiancé can work about 4-6 hours a day in separate rooms, So she found me a little bigger room to stay in the Delano. I’m not a high roller, more of a Small-medium roller so I will take what I can when it’s comped and should hit gold on this visit coming up.

What was your original booking for at Mandalay Bay? (EDIT: I see you mentioned it above!) I had booked for a Elite King suite at MB, and got an email saying I was switched to Delano, but no mention of the room. The app and website still show me at MB.

EDIT: After seeing what you had originally booked, I'm fairly confident I'll get shoved into the basic room. Will definitely need to convince them to switch me somewhere else, or cancel.

Basic Delano Suite is an upgrade from the Elite King Suite at MB.
