Checked out of Mirage at noon and left bags at bell desk. Have about three hours to wander, get lunch, and play a bit before heading back to Mirage for bags and Lyft to airport. Down $60 and wife is down $20 but played a bunch of triple play DDB at Casino Royale and a bit of TDB at Cromwell this morning.

Someone needs to tell me how the taxes work. Is it just extra income taxed at my normal tax rate when I file my taxes or do I pay a higher rate based on it being gambling winnings? Am I gonna get slammed for underpaying taxes throughout the year?

Wife also hit 4s and a 5-K 4OAK while I ran to bathroom so she’s back to down just a little on the day. I’m waaaaayyy up. Finally leaving. Heading to chocolate shop at Bellagio for something for my mom and then back to Mirage for bags and Lyft to airport. Been fun!!!

It should be just taxed at your normal rate ... but definitely get win/loss statements b/c you can write up the amount of losses up to the amount you won. So if you had $2,000 in winnings you can write that much off in losses. IF the taxes scare you a bit you can always make a prepayment to Uncle Sam in advance and then if you're over you'll just get it back of whatever. Congrats on those royals!! Great trip report and Happy Anniversary!

But only if you itemize. If you take the standard deduction (which is the best move for a lot of people now), you're on the hook for all of it at the marginal tax rate, either 12%, 22%, 24%, or more depending on his AGI.

But this isn't the worst problem to have @PSM! Congrats again! And have safe trip home!

Well, we’re on the plane and should be leaving on time. It’s been fun, Las Vegas.

I’ll write a recap post in the next day or two when I’ve had time to run the numbers and see where we ended up.

Wow, wow, wow!! So fun!! I love winning on the way out the door. Who am I kidding, I love to win anytime but it just feels so much better to travel home with the recent winnings in your pocket. Safe travels and we look forward to the recap!

Alright, here's the final money summary for anyone interested:

Thanks mostly to my two royals in less than 24 hours - one of which was a $1,500 handpay progressive at Bellagio less than three hours before leaving for the airport - we arrived home with our entire cash bankroll and tip money fully restored, plus enough to cover our flights and hotel 100% (neither were cheap for low rollers with minimal offers on a holiday weekend), AND another $150 towards our "other" spending, which was mostly dining and a few souvenirs.

Although the royals clearly played the biggest part, browsing back through this thread will show that MANY quads of various varieties - and even one straight flush - certainly went a long way towards keeping us in a decent spot until the royals came along. We each had one rough day where we lost quite a bit, which is why we didn't fully cover the "other" spending by the time we got home, but I've still got a huge smile on my face. My first trip to Vegas was in 2006 when I started playing VP and these were royals #1 and #2. Hell, I don't even typically hit more than a couple quads in any given trip and was beginning to think I was cursed.

Anyways, thanks for following along. Gonna be hard to top this one and even harder to wait for the next trip, whenever that might be.
