On this anniversary of the most electrifying sporting event I’ve ever seen, I respectfully recommend to everyone a viewing, or re-viewing, of the 2004 Walt Disney film “Miracle.” It’s a well made movie for fans and non-fans alike, with a great musical score by Mark Isham. Johnny says, “five stars”, and a lot more watchable than a lot of films Hollywood is putting out now.

I enjoyed that movie - and replays of the game. I wasn't into ice hockey in 1980, or Olympics. Started watching hockey around 1982/83 I think. One of my best friends in elementary school had a birthday party at a high school hockey game - her dad was the coach. I loved the lowkey but fun birthday parties in the 80s. Anyway, have been a big fan ever since.....

I couldn't agree more. The movie is excellent. I was less than a year old when the game happened, so it was pretty cool to get immersed in the movie.

As one that has laced them up, I remember watching the game live on TV. Movie was very good.

I went to Lake Placid as coach of a team of 9-10 year olds in 2002. Recommended by a friend who was a coach with the Capitals at the time...some of the best advice ever.

It was an awesome experience. They played in the same rinks as the 1980 Olympics. I was a bit in awe of the place.

My son has been going their yearly for adult tournaments. He enjoys playing there.

Yep, good flick. And I remember the tourney, the game against Russia, in fact so much of those Games still so vividly. I was an avid and competitive winter sports dude at that time so the Winter Games meant everything. Thanks for the memories!!

Big sports fan generally, bit not really a hockey fan. So I respect the upset and all of the excitement around it. However, being a nerd, when someone mentions the miracle on ice, I am just as likely to remember this little joke from an episode of the x-files:

The game itself was played in the afternoon, but the TV broadcast on ABC (for a lot of the country, at least) was at night. I found out the result when I got home from school that day via a phone service where you could pay to get the latest scores, so I already knew who won while watching the broadcast.

I thought Kurt Russell was great in this movie, even if he did win several awards for “worst sports movie Minnesota accent.”

Again. Who do you play for?

    Gotta love it.

Unfortunately I had a bet on the Russians winning, even though I was rooting for the USA.
