    My Trip Report

Mileage Runs and Gambling Fun!!! - A LIVE BeeeJay Trip Report

After a seemingly endless Summer 2018 LobsterFest, the fresh fish has been served and the hostesses fully satisfied. My time being sexually objectified finally gives way to the much more respectable endeavor of chasing airline and casino status!!!!

This extended non-Vegas/Vegas report will cover 4 trips, at the rate of one per week, over the next month, earning me 33,500 status qualifying miles, $3,000 in qualifying spend, and 35,000 award miles.

My annual work travel gets me most of the way to my airline status level, and has been heavily augmented by numerous last minute Vegas trips previously reported. In order to get the necessary miles, a combination of gambling and exotic warm weather locales is required, I’m using the following 4 trips over the next month to just sneak an inch over 100,000 BIS (Butt In Seat) Miles for the year:

    1. Chicago-Hawaii
    2. Chicago-Fort Lauderdale
    3. Chicago-Vegas
    4. Chicago-Phoenix

The mileage from this set of runs will get me to 100,400 miles for the year, earning me United Premier 1K status for all of 2019. This translates into 10 upgrade instruments I can apply to any flight, plus I’m able to get a free upgrade on about 60% of my work-related flights. Plus the Marriott status, and the higher mileage earning rate, dedicated customer service line, pre-boarding, free food and drinks in economy plus, etc. It’s probably not really worth it, but I enjoy the chase and I’ll enjoy it while it lasts!

    Chicago-Hawaii:

I needed a large chunk of miles so used a combination of Google Flights and the United flexible calendar to find the cheapest first class (double qualifying miles) flight between the LobsterFest end date of 10/15 and 12/31 year end deadline for earning miles. I tried various combinations of flights to Singapore, etc, eventually settling instead on multiple shorter runs, the longest of which would be a trip to Hawaii. I was able to actually find one much cheaper fare, which coincidentally lucked into a direct flight from Chicago-Honolulu, as most of the cheaper deals had an LAS or SFO layover, or required a run thru Toronto. The direct flight from Chicago on a 777-200 offered full lay-flat seats to boot! I tried to get a companion to accompany me, but wife wouldn't suffer 10 hrs due to her fear of Deep Vein Thrombosis, and kids are far too cool for a free trip to Hawaii. So a quick solo trip it would be!!!

Despite the current strike, I'm booked at the Sheraton Waikiki Beach. I chose this location specifically for the Instagram photo op from the adult-only infinity pool with a great view of diamond-head across the entire beach, and the $39 pitchers of Mai Tai's--intended for groups of 3-4, but I'll take care of that by myself just fine, thank you! I'm also stuck with a Marriott property because I want use of the 4pm late checkout due to a late return flight, and the executive lounge benefit for breakfast, snacks, evening cocktails, etc. Part of my United status is a “Platinum Elite” Marriott status which is equal to the status earned by staying 50 nights per year, so this is a pretty nice additional value being earned by the effort to maintain United Premier 1K status.

I've reserved prime pool chairs for my two longer days "at the beach" and plan to simply read and relax and drink Mai Tais during the layover. The only gambling on this portion of the trip will be checking my fantasy lineups!

    Chicago-Ft. Lauderdale

Initially I had been shooting for a 75,000 mile status and thus reserved this leg. I was able to convince the wife to join on this trip as it is only a 3 hour flight each way, and it is a “day trip”, arriving in FLL around 1230pm and departing about 4pm. Plan is to start the morning with mimosas on the flight and uber to a trendy beachside Mexican restaurant for lunch before heading back! Should be a fun “lunch date”!

    Chicago-Las Vegas

I had been planning to do this route as a flight to San Juan, Puerto Rico, returning on the exact same plane an hour later, but after getting some other upgrades I ended up needing less miles, and found a cheaper First Class route to Vegas that garnered me a couple hundred dollars credit vs the initial option, so figured with a comp room, why not just do an overnight in Vegas and make some fun out of the mileage run!

I initially tried to book Aria, but had no comp, but a decent rate, then noted this day was one of very few on my Cosmo calendar so booked there. Then I was able to convince Borat to join, so went back to Aria via an email to the host and was able to procure a two-queen fully comped, we kept the Cosmo room in case we get too drunk to make it back to Aria! Plus we arranged for a 10am arrival so hoping to get early check in at one or the other so we can hit the ground running and not have to worry about our minimal luggage. The only way to get two queens at Cosmo was to give up the balcony, but figured we will likely find some use for the extra room and it’s only an extra $25 bucks each anyway.

Plan is to bring a normal full Vegas trip budget for the 28-hour stay and shooting for gambling 14 hours each at Cosmo and Aria!!! We are going to be shooting for lots of Hard 8’s and an epic All-Small/All-Tall/All run with a large bet on each!!!

    Chicago-Phoenix

Borat lives in Phoenix along with a half-dozen of our other high school, college, early career buddies, and I normally make an annual golf trip. This is actually a 4-nighter, and plan is to play 18 holes on Friday with Borat, Money, and Big Dog from previous Vegas Trip Reports, hit Top Golf and the Casino on Saturday with a wider group, then again play 18 holes on Sunday with the main guys.

So this trip overall should include some good United Airlines Mileage Plus discussion, some decent Waikiki beach cocktail action, some nice Florida beachside food porn, a solid 24+ hour run of Vegas craps/roulette/3-card poker/Video poker coverage, and wrapping up with some golf and gambling! Hopefully a little bit of everything, with a lot of WINNING!!!!

Some of my trip is financed by credits from this fiasco....

    https://www.flyertalk.com/articles/lawsuits-allege-poor-food-safety-practices-at-united-airlines-endangered-passengers.html?utm_medium=Email&utm_campaign=

They were giving $100 credit for each leg in first with no meal for a while, along with a snack box and a $20 meal voucher. That went on for quite a while this summer. I would get a free upgrade every week, then get the $20 in snacks, and a $100 travel voucher. I was hoping that went on forever! I guess no one got sick from the food but they had to redo the entire kitchen

With those weapons, that victory was either a lucky rocket shot, or someone fell and didn't re-deploy in time. :)

All checked in for the hotel, hoping my liver recovers from the Halloween party last night so I can attack the United Mai Tai supply on the 9 hour 17 minute outbound flight!
