Finally getting an adults only trip and trying to decide where to stay either Mirage or MGM. I have 2 nights comped at either place and can buy an additional night from Myvegas for either place as well. Trying to decide where to stay. Are resort fees and CC holds the same? Just wanting to be prepared since were paying for my sisters resort fees and hold as well..

    Thanks

ETA They are the grand king room at MGM and the regular ? room at Mirage

Soooooo much depends on *what* room is comped at each place. West Wing King at MGM?? Enjoy your stay in our refurbished closets! Seriously...what rooms are we talking about here?

I doubt you can go wrong with either one (as long as it's not the West Wing rooms at MGM). Both have good pools, access to a ton of places to eat, but I'd give the nod to Mirage. It's always been one of my favorite hotels.

I'd vote Mirage too, prefer the pools there and the casino. If you like moving from casino to casino I think the mirage is better - the MGM is almost too big a complex and it seems to take an age to get to the strip. (that said I would be happy in either)

For me, it would come down to these factors:

    1. Room size and quality. I stayed at Mirage for 1st time in December comp in the base resort room. After reading enthusiastic reviews of Mirage fans, I felt let down by the room. It was getting tired. Knicks. Worn upholstery. Curtains has tears. But, it was still nice design, except the tiny bathroom (which doesn't bother some). Great Volcano view. 394 sq. ft. I'd give a Resort Tower a go. Have not stayed MGM, but from what I've heard, the Grand King is a nice room. Floor to ceiling windows. 446 sq ft. Since I was not impressed overall with the Mirage room, I'd give a shot at the unknown. + MGM.

    2. The resort. Mirage is a well designed property. Smaller than MGM, easy to navigate. It was winter and didn't use the pool. MGM is a mega resort. You get choices on-site. Many pools. Tons of dining. Potentially not having to leave the property as much. + MGM

    3. Location. This is the BIG plus for Mirage. It's quick and easy to get to the strip. You are so close to many other hotels, restaurants and shopping of varying qualities, e.g., Harrah's, Casino Royale and Venetian are across the street. On one side is CP, the other TI. That's variety! ++ Mirage.

You forgot that Mirage is right across the street from White Castle!

The location of the Mirage being closer to center strip makes it a better place to stay IMO.
I’ve stayed at the MGM probably 10 times and wouldn’t choose to stay there again.
Just getting from your room out to the sidewalk on the strip at MGM is a long walk and the same time at Mirage and you would darn near inside another property.
MGM does have a monorail station but so does Harrahs across the street from The Mirage.

MGM was better when they first opened, imo. I liked the pool out front and the "theme park" in the back. Also, it feels a little bit like a mall. One plus is being on the monorail line. You can't go wrong with either choice, though.

I am in the minority as Mirage tends to be a very popular choice but I really like MGM. I am a big fan of using the monorail to get around, so I don't find it's location to be less convenient than Mirage. MGM is huge but it is very manageable once you figure out the layout. I've stayed in MGM Grand rooms, West Wing, and Signature Suites but I haven't stayed at Mirage, so I can't compare the rooms. I have played at Mirage and usually stop in there once per visit. It is a good casino, solid food, and I would certainly be willing to stay there. It also gives you better access to CET and TI (if you don't use the monorail from MGM). That said, the last few trips I've stuck to Mlife locations, so MGM's location is good for visiting the South Strip. I also really like the food options at MGM and nearby hotels. You can't go wrong with either (even in the West Wing), so it will really depend on what you plan to do transportation wise and what other hotels you want to visit.

I believe the resort fee at both is $35 a night (per room). I'm not sure on the CC hold but I thought it was one nights stay (per room).

    edit

I have stayed a couple times at Harrah's and Saraha is where I have stayed the most nights, so I do understand the appeal and convenience of center strip but I also find it overrated if you are using the monorail instead of walking everywhere. The exception being if you know you have a cluster of spots you want to it and they are all around Mirage. In that case, no doubt that is smarter than the monorail.

I easily prefer MGM. Especially during pool season.

But you can't really go wrong at either. They really are quite similar, except for location.

I think Mirage is a better location, but MGM Grand is a better casino. I switched from primarily staying at the Mirage to primarily staying at MGM Grand a couple of years ago because I thought the casino at Mirage lacked fun and excitement. I think that part of the problem was that the dealers and cocktail waitresses at the Mirage seemed to be mostly over experienced (if you know what I mean).

I'm staying at the MGM Grand in a couple of weeks, mostly because my friends want to go see the Bruno Mars show across the street in the Park Theater, I'll try to post a trip report after I return.

I am not a fan of the city sized mega resorts so I go with the Mirage. I feel more comfortable there and really enjoy the pool, restaurants and location. If I feel the need to walk around a mega resort there is always Caesars a couple steps away

I'd go with the Mirage. Restaurants are better, better location, and not as difficult to navigate as MGM.

Mirage's location alone would trump MGM for me. It's got nicer pools too and I just think it's more fun. MGM is a "little" quieter, but it's a little farther out of the way too.

The MV room you are talking of adding though has normally been a west wing room though

    Mirage. Not even a question.

I have been to Vegas over 15 times in 10 years. 1/3 of those have been at Mirage. I stayed at MGM once for a bachelor party, & the place is too big, & too far from center strip in my mind....if you plan to casino hop, & walk the strip.

I have NEVER had any bad issues with Mirage. Location is perfect. Food choices are great. Pool is awesome. Easy Walking to north of strip for Wynn/Encore. Venetian/Palazzo are across the street, as is Casino Royal, Harrah's, & The Linq. Easy walk to the South to hit up Caesars, Bellagio, Cosmo, & City Center.

I guess if you gamble a lot at Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Excalibur, & NYNY, you may want to stay at MGM. But I have always been drawn to the center strip, then Uber to Freemont a night or 2 for some cheap gambling & entertainment.

My husbands concern was walking across the street late at night from Harrahs via the monorail

i dont think you can use myvegas hotel rewards a day before or after your comp days anymore. i lost a mirage myvegas night because of that, and they wont refund your myvegas points either.
