I think they've lost me as a customer.

Over the past few years, I've generally been splitting trips staying 3 nights at mandalay or aria and 3 at Cosmo or Palazzo, because I like the mandalay pool and liked the alibi bar and Jose (Julian ?) Serrano lunch happy hour at aria, which they suddenly did away with last year.

I get significantly better offers at Cosmo and Venetian, and I find the slots impossibly tight at Aria. I also don't get resort fees waved at MGM but do at C and P. I've been justifying it because I like the properties and the resort credit I get has generally just canceled out the resort fees, but their nickel and dining of comp players is starting to make me nuts. I gamble with 1k a day. $120 over 3 days is more than 10% of a days budget- and I only get 1/3 as much freeplay despite a significant history of dumping money there. It's just not worth it anymore when there are better options. I can live without the 2 hours I spend at the wave pool.

Also, I really like to look at my Vegas expenditures as all cash. It sounds stupid, but the $120 credit card charge really grinds on me.

They've lost one grumpy customer. I'm sure they don't care, but there you have it.

And one More thing - blaming this on "rising labor costs" grates me incredibly badly. How much are the execs making. Stop trying to turn the working class against each other.

Funny...I would pay about the same amount in resort fees for my ten Day stay than I do for a RT Ticket from Amsterdam. Why are we complaining? Most People on this board have them waived anyway, right?

Going to Key West, FL in a few weeks, most resorts there have a $35 resort fee...it's not just Vegas, people...it is everywhere. I've paid resort fees in Memphis, Nashville, St. Louis, Denver, Austin, pretty much everywhere. At least in Vegas I get them waived or use back end comps to clear them.

I keep saying it's everywhere but many want to think it's only Vegas and many have been doing way longer then Vegas which was late to the game with all this. This just isn't our fathers Vegas anymore.

No. Most people don't have them waived, especially not on the strip. People banking on not having to pay them is one of the reasons the resorts haven't faced the backlash they deserve for raising fees with no improvement for customer experience in return.

But the reality is, they don't have to improve anything and raise them. They can take stuff away and raise them. That's the real!

He said "most on this board". The answer is probably "no" there too, but the answer is closer to 50/50 compared to the general public, I'd think. Obviously most of the convention guests are paying.

As for the people on this board, that would be incorrect because most of us pay the resort fees. As for the rest of the general public, even more so as I would estimate 99% of the total visitors to Vegas pay the required resort fees. That along with the parking fees will hurt room bookings over the next couple of years until they open some shiny new things in 2020. I expect 2018 and 2019 will be down years for Vegas outside of convention business.

How were you able to calculate that most board members pay resort fees?

Most people on this board are not Diamond or 7 Star customers (and no, I don't have exact numbers, just estimating that more than half of the people on this board are still paying resort fees).

Many hotels don't charge resort fees on comped rooms; did you take that into account? I am not Diamond or 7 star and rarely pay a resort fee. I also rarely stay at CET or MLife properties.

    Lol

I agree with Ken though. But maybe a poll might prove me wrong. I think it's somewhat close to 50/50.
So if you stay at CET, you get it comped off the back end then?

The only major hotel Vegas hotel chain where you're never subjected to a resort fee with a comped room that I can think of offhand is Boyd offstrip (and no resort fees period for Boyd downtown). Others will waive the fee afterward if you "deserve" it.

What do I actually get extra for a resort fee. I already have unlimited data on my phone. Through me a bone and make me feel like I get something at least. Maybe a breakfast buffet for each day. Something.

If CET is waiving resort fees frequently for guests who are not Diamond or 7Star, then that's news. But their official policy is to charge the fees for anyone who isn't top tier, comp room or not. I don't recall if there is a tier at MLife where you are guaranteed no fees but it's not automatic for those on a comp. It's like getting a spam email promising riches but you have to send them a money first. Boyd does waive fees on comped rooms, the Silverton does also and I am sure that there are other locals casinos that do too. But the trend on the strip is that it's not automatic to get fees waived. I don't think it's fair to assume that most of us are in one boat or the other when it comes to fees. When I think about some of the past surveys about where folks stay, how they play, and even if they get comped, I think 50-50 is probably more accurate to describe the situation for who pays and who doesn't.

Tring and Leo, I rarely stay at CET properties, as I stated, that is why I rarely pay resort fees. Over the past several years, most often I stay comped at Cosmo, Palms and Wynncore and have not been charged resort fees on the comped nights at those properties. On my trip in 2 weeks, I am staying 4 nights comped at Cosmo, no resort fee. Because I have a late night flight home on day 5, I am moving to a comped room at Caesars for "one night" though I won't actually be staying the night but will spend some time at the Caesars pool on that final day..so I will pay the resort fee for the night.

I would much rather the resort fee be called the "we're tired of splitting revenue with third party travel sites fee" than the BS "benefits" that come with paying the fee. Like others, I look at the full price of the room regardless of how it's split up. My only real complaint is that they still charge it on comped rooms. Don't call it a comped room if I still have to pay to stay.

What *really* burns me up is the mom 'n pop store that charges $.50 to use a debit card for any purchase under $5. I won't shop at those places even if my purchase isn't subject to the fee.
