I'm starting to wonder if any of you ever read Vegas crime news before now. :haha: This is nothing new, and nothing new that LVRJ is making a stink out of a non-story. Something happened to someone and they have a minor injury seems to be their favorite story for years, especially if they can make it sound like it's near the tourist corridors.

There are some areas in that Flamingo - Linq - Linq Promenade area along LVB where I have seen lots of drug deals, fights, purse snatching, etc. As we've said for a couple of decades here. When you are out and about in Vegas, keep your eyes open, your head on a swivel, and a hand on wherever you keep your money. You'll be fine.

Or decide this is the reason you can't go back... because someone did something to someone else and we don't know why, but yikes.

Yes light on details could have been stabbed with a pen or pencil even.
Agree, don't take wads of cash out in public, especially outside. Avoid having huge amounts in your slot machine if possible.
I tend to look around as I don't like being watched while playing. Have stared off a few characters in the past.
Surprised at how carelessly I've seen some handle very large wads of cash.

The LVRJ has a whole section on crime with hot links to subsections for homocides, robberies, sex crimes, stabbings, & shootings.

What's sad, and what's actually somewhat amusing, is that Back in the Bad Old Days (tm) when the Mob Ran Vegas (tm) such crimes against persons were very rare.

On the drive to Las Vegas on my very first trip, one of the things my late aunt (MSRIP) emphasized was that Las Vegas was about the most safe place to be out and about and you did not need to be concerned about a purse snatch or mugging and the like. She explained that if something like that would happen, the casino security would not bring in the local cops, but turn it over to "Guido and the boys" who would find the perp and have a "friendly chat" with him.

    Times have indeed changed!

Be smart and you'll be safe. Maybe I've never been a target because I have the look of already having my butt kicked and wallet emptied. Just kidding, I normally have a happy face, even if that may have just happened. Drinks do help.

20 years ago I got mugged on the strip near the Sahara . I had been drinking and needed to get back to Paris where I was staying. The valet had no success getting me a cab. It was a beautiful April night so my inebriated self decided to walk. Around where Wet 'n Wild water park was a guy came out of the shadows and demanded money. I said 2 words to him which the police said I probably shouldn't have said to the guy. The first one began with the letter "F" and the second ended with the letter "U". Guy hit me over the head, took my wallet (with $37 in non sequential, unmarked bills and no credit cards) and my shoes. Never will understand why he took my shoes...

Vegas is a dangerous place. That's why I only return 6 to 8 times a year!

I've seen LVMPD on The Strip. Bike cops, in cars and on foot. The casinos have their own casinos on property to handle security issues, but LVMPD has a presence there. There's a station just south of Mandalay Bay at LVB and Russell

I'm scared. Do I want to know where you keep your money? :haha:

There was a shooting in North Las Vegas today. Does that not count because it's not near the tourist corridor?

There has always been crime in Vegas. Even when the mob ran things, although they tended to want to handle that themselves. Mostly because they often where the crime. ;)

We have had members here robbed from time to time. Stolen TITOs, jackets, purses. One member here got mugged and assaulted in the walkway from Mandalay Bay to Luxor years ago and we discovered there are no cameras in there after that incident. It's awful and I hate when it happens, but it does happen.

The world is full of jerks. You've got to be smart, keep your eyes open and be safe. Stay one step ahead of those jerks.

Vegas is way safer than a few of the cities in my state. We always go when its hot anyway so if I go anywhere it's Uber or maybe a Cab if I'm in the mood to listen to somebody whine:evillaugh:

What surprised me with this one is that none of the 'norm' seem to ever pop up as news alerts on my phone/feed (unless it is the really big stuff like the casino cage getting robbed, etc). However this one did - likely because it was the only exciting Strip news that they've had in months since everything was closed...............Now the last couple days again the alerts have been the hotels/restaurants that have had employees test positive instead.

    Here's your details:

    https://www.reviewjournal.com/crime/stabbings/suspect-stabbed-robbed-man-outside-hotel-room-on-las-vegas-strip-2062670/

If you get paywalled out, the details are:
    • Guy took $500 out of ATM at CP
    • Got on elevator with another guy unknown to him
    • Not clear who was on the elevator first, but story says other guy did not push a floor button in the elevator (stands to reason the perp was following the guy)
    • Perp followed the guy out of the elevator on his floor and robbed/stabbed him
    • According to CP security, perp had a similar offense in Feb (maybe without the stabbing part)

I get my cash from an ATM in the morning when there are few people around. If I get suspicious of someone arriving behind me at the ATM, I will hit "Cancel Transaction" on the ATM, and walk away.
