You’ve checked in, got your key(s), get to the room . . . now – how do you make it your own? You know, to make it feel more comfortable?

    Me?
I rearrange the work area/desk, if it is not facing the television.

If I am in a 2Q room, I use one bed for sleep and the other bed to unpack my stuff.

I take a wad of Kleenex and stuff it in the peephole – hey, Kramer and Newman got me to thinking about that Reverse Peephole thing.

A/C to a bareable temp and make sure the fan is on constantly, I hate the fan shutting on and off all night.
    That is about it.

I untuck the bedsheets and open up the curtains and sheers! Paying for that view most of the time!

I febreze everything and light a candle when I'm in the room. I keep the curtains open all day and all night.

I have done all of these things in the past.

photo the room number on my phone & send it to my hubs.
photo the room before I mess it up.

Put my bags on the bathroom floor.
I open all the windows and turn on the the a/c and fan to get the sun & air flow going.
I used to bring little tealight candles, now I bring febreeze and poopourri.
A mini water bottle humidifier is something I need to get!

If there is an adjoining door, I always make sure it's locked.
If there's a patio door or windows that open I always test them out & see how well they lock.

I run the water in the sink & bathtub & I do a test flush.
I find the safe & test it. (Even though I rarely use it)

Check out the lighting and outlet situation.
Many times there are lamps that aren't even plugged in!
9 times out of 10 I have to use my own power strip.

Once all the lights are on & it's nice & bright in the room.....
    Turn or move furniture.
    Check for bugs.

Put the remote in a ziplock
Get the chlorox wipes out & clean the doorknobs & flushing handle.

Put my luggage on the valet stand & hang my clothes that I'm wearing today & tomorrow on hangers.
Check that clothes iron is present & clean. Iron if necessary.
put my HBA bag & flat iron in the bathroom.

I check out the garbage bin & ice bin situation.
Sometimes there's only 1 garbage can!??!
Line & fill ice bin and my soft-sided beverage cooler.
Put stuff on ice so it's cold for later.
P.S.: Sprinkle salt on your ice to chill stuff fast!

Takes about 30 minutes to an hour for me to settle in.
If I don't have the time.....I will place garbage bags over my luggage and put it in the bathtub and go.

I used to take 4 clothespins with me to close the gaps in the drapes.
Now I leave the drapes open and let sunshine beat down on me...forcing me to wake up early.

I close the drapes and leave the tv on when I leave the room.
I put my HBA bag & flat iron back in my luggage.
I lock my luggage & I use disposable plastic tamper locks.
When I leave, I always do a test pull on the door from the outside to make sure the door was fully locked.

    I must be OCD.

    - Put luggage in bathroom
    - open curtains if they aren't already
    - check what kind of view I have
    - check furniture
    - search all drawers and closets (mostly for goodies left behind... only found granny panties once - but that was behind the TV in the entertainment unit at NYNY)
    - make sure safe is working
    - hang up clothes
    - arrange toiletries in bathroom

Simple. I let my wife enter the room and you will be amazed how different the place looks within 10 minutes of arriving. Clothes here, makeup there, magazines there, snacks there. It's like I never left home.

Aside from that, I set up my laptop so I can work and I stay in my corner.

    I feel insulted, yet I don't care!
Yes - I like order and cleanliness.
The people I travel with are also on the clean side, so it's never been an issue.

I spray everything with Lysol then light a candle for a more pleasant smell, get the curtain's open, if the windows open then open a window for a bit, crank the air down, take care of any beverages and food, then hit the casino.

I'm cool with leaving most everything in the suitcase. Wrinkly stuff I'll hang. Plug in laptop somewhere. Toilet kit on the counter. Go have fun.

Depends how long I'm staying, but either way the very 1st thing is to check and see if safe is working. If not, I need it fixed or a new room. We store all of our extra cash and valuables in safe.

If it's a short stay (3 or 4 days) I don't bother unpacking my bags but I do put toiletries in bath and prep the A.C.

I spend more time "Making the Room My Own" on long stays (7 or 8 days).
    - After verifying the safe is working, A.C. is set to 65 deg. or colder (Yes, I'm from Ohio).
    - I then unpack my bags and stash suitcases so I don't trip over them when I'm drunk.
    - Toiletries in bathroom.
    - I prep our snack and bar table (use whatever table is in room). We bring munchies from home and purchase our $10 bottle of vodka from store behind Flamingo. Gotta cure the late night munchies.
    - Open curtains. I too sleep with them open. Love being able to see the late night neon lights and morning sunrise.
    - Put out my sleeping cloths (pj's), although I sometimes wonder why I bother because the majority of times I wake up with my cloths on. How does the song by LIT go?? - "Sleeping with my cloths on"
    - Get my allowance for the night ready and lock up the rest so I don't spend it all in 1st night.
    - When we're at the Linq we turn on frig so we have ice cold water for a.m. cotton mouth.
    - One of the most important things is to plug in night light in bathroom. We bring our own small light. Wife has had some interesting evenings trying to locate the bathroom in the dark of night. Save those stories for another time.

Then it's off to the races for another 1st night in Vegas. 1st nights always seem to me some of the most interesting of the trip.

If I go solo or switch between strip and downtown, I will work out of the suitcase. If with family or a longer stay unpack and hang stuff that will wrinkle and generally unpack
Always check the safe before starting though

    1) Untuck the bed sheets so my feet can breathe.
    2) Set up the snacks I purchased at Walmart/$.99 Store.
    3) Set up CPAP.
    4) Set up Coffee maker I purchased at Walmart.
    5) Open up the drapes so I can see the view (day and night).
    6) Put out toiletries.
    7) Head to casino.
(I don't unpack because I move hotels too often per trip)
