Anybody have any new update on when this is supposed to open? I'm thinking about staying at the California for the first time and this would be a real deal maker if Main Street was open since they have that bridge connecting them. Thanks in advance?

I have reason to hope but can’t reveal any information or sources due to only a sapphire, in the making..... onyx and emerald can reveal if they choose I heard, but can’t confirm nor deny due to current status. Watch this space for developments.

Word is that MSS won't reopen until more Hawaii people start flying to vegas. The Boyd Hawaii charter - Vacations Hawaii website says that they won't restart charters until June 1. Last month they interviewed one of the Boyd suits who said that until they can get enough customers to fly the charters and fill the hotel MSS will remain closed.

Good info. I'm sure the suits know better than me, but I've always thought there was a much higher percentage of Hawaiians at the Cal than MSS. Meaning, if the Cal is open .... Oh well, even a June "rumor" is good at this point.

Thanks for your answers. Considering I'm going mid May that June open is perfect as they would probably open the casino at the very least to get things going. Thanks.

Just be forewarned, MSS may not reopen in June. It all depends on when the Hawaii people start travelling to vegas en masse.

Hopefully with more vaccines going out more people will be more comfortable travelling again. Many of the Hawaii to vegas travelers who stay at Boyd properties are elderly so until they start travelling again it won't be likely for MSS to reopen until they do start to travel. But even with vaccinations the elderly may still be wary about travelling because they are afraid of catching one of the variant strains.

And with Hawaii moving so slowly on vaccinations (they will just start on 1c on Monday but only for people 70 and over) it may be May or June before they start vaccinating the general public.

Hang in there! Hopefully in a few months more people will travel for MSS to reopen.

As for me, 2 weeks after I get the second vaccine I will probably travel to vegas. Just too bad, not sure when I will get the vaccines although I am in the health risk category so hopefully within a month I can get my first shot.

Fingers crossed that MSS will be reopened by August. Even though we stay at the CAL, we play cards 50% of our time at MSS. And my son’s favorite part of every day is his morning beer(s) and newspapers at the Boar.

When they do reopen, I hope to see a few familiar faces at one of our favorite casinos.

I've heard everything from "never" to "mid spring", not sure anyone truly knows at this point.

So is the entire place closed, or just the hotel and restaurants? I cannot seem to find anything on their website.

Nothing more than a matter of numbers. Once the Cal and the Fremont, especially the Cal, start collecting bodies during the week, MSS will open. Until then they have no reason, other than squandering payroll, to open it.

Where have the bartenders like Oleg and Jose gone- have they found work at other casinos?

At least one body is delaying a visit to the Cal until after MSS has reopened.

I’m in that count, now four! In fact, will probably avoid downtown until MSS is open. I can just frequent locals if need be.

15 months since we traveled, 12 months since we ate at a restaurant and I'm ready. We both got shot #2 this week and we are booked for Cal in May. We no longer stay at MSS because the remodeled rooms at Cal are nicer, but we would normally do the majority of our gaming at MSS. Disappointed it probably won't be open and feel bad for the employees, but I need to go somewhere!

Last trip in November saw 2 of three regular bartenders. Neither could believe it’s lasted this long but were rolling with the punches. I’m with Joe, going but would prefer mss open or hell, just the bar!!
But there’s nothing wrong with the California casino either; MSS was way above normal.....o_O

Their booking engine is allowing reservations beginning May 1. I booked a Vegas trip for early May, so hopefully there will be an official announcement soon.
