We recently stayed at the M Resort. Our first night was in the new tower and then we moved over to the original tower for two nights. Both rooms were double queen mountain view rooms. There are differences in these rooms.

This room (2 queen mountain view) was 400 square feet in the new tower. This room is 550 square feet in the original tower.

There is one bathroom sink in the new tower. The original tower room has 2 bathroom sinks.
The original tower also has a TV built into the bathroom mirror.

There is no bathtub in the new tower only a shower, the original tower has a bathtub and a shower.
The shower was identical in both rooms.

The new tower has manual pull curtains, the original tower has power curtains.

The new tower has a 50 inch TV (guess), the original tower TV looked like a 42 inch.

The new tower room has one chair and small table next to the windows, the original tower has 2 chairs and small table.
There is very little room between the bed and this window chair in the new tower.
The floor space between the outside edges of the queen beds in the new tower was very tight, original room has adequate room around the beds.

The new room has 2 electrical outlets and one USB on the nightstand between the beds. However, one of the electrical outlets was being used by the clock.
The original tower has 2 electrical outlets and 2 USB ports available between the beds.

There is one large design flaw in the new tower bathroom, it's the water closet door.
In the original tower, the water closet door swings out into the bathroom.
In the new tower, the door swings into the water closet. The door clears the front of the toilet by 1 inch.
So to close the water closet door in the new tower, you need to stand between the toilet and the sidewall to swing the door shut.

My Wife recently had knee replacement surgery, thus our moving to the original tower where she could maneuver in the water closet without concern.

Thank you for the comparison!
I just booked a 2 Queen room in the Old Tower for an upcoming trip due to the larger size listed in the website room description. Glad to have confirmation that I chose right!

Haha I just did this too. I want that extra 100 sq ft.

I am also disappointed that Penn did nothing to architecturally incorporate the new wing with the beautiful sweep of the original tower. The new addition is just a large rectangle. It makes me eager to see what the new Marnell casino will look like across the street.

I thought the new rooms felt like tiny plastic boxes. I did not stay my second night. I used app to check out. Old room much better in my opinion. I had a new room King.

It's a shame they built the new tower so cheap and greatly lower the value of the entire resort.
Not surprised though as Penn never understands what "high end" or "luxury" means. It's run by the classmates of Mr Reeg.

The early news reports on building out the 2nd tower indicated that the footings/groundwork for the 2nd tower were completed at the same time that the original tower was built. Thus, they were able to put up the 2nd tower much faster. If true, the footings would dictate the depth of the rooms in the new tower. The smaller square footage of the rooms in the new tower may work for the king bedroom layout but the room is too tight for a double queen. I will continue to visit this casino/hotel but will only stay in the original tower.
