I count 16 people so far who say they're in town that night, but about half are staying Downtown - I think we need 10 players to make it worthwhile. ETA 6/10: We have 10 now, so it's on.
ETA 6/11: Moving the location to Venetian. This should be the last edit.

Basics (actually I guess more than basics now that I look at it, lol):
    • $200 buy in. Be prepared mentally to lose it all (see prior results below with the links to past events)
    • You can partner with someone if $200 is too much
    • You can buy more than one share if you want
    • Friends and family welcome to buy in or just watch
    • We collect the cash and determine the order of the pull right before it starts. We keep two envelopes - one for the unplayed pool money and the other for banked TITOs after each player finishes
    • Each player selects their own machine, denom, etc.
    • Each player decides when to bank their winnings, stop early, or play down to zero. These tend to be obvious choices.
    • We have a player who has no tax liability and is not subject to withholding, we will use that person's card for all spins and he will press the button (at the direction of the player if desired) to make sure we don't get busted on a technicality
    • $20 tip from the pool for any ordinary handpays; players are free to tip more out of pocket if desired. We can probably agree on something larger if we have a massive hit.
    • Meet & Greet at 8:00pm, at The Dorsey bar at Venetian. The Dorsey is located next to Chica restaurant, on the Venetian side of the passageway between Venetian and Palazzo.
    • At the M&G, we'll have a couple of drinks and around 8:45pm, collect the pool money, and draw cards to determine the order of the pull. You're welcome to come to both the M&G and pull without committing to the slot pool. I'll buy a round for whoever's there at 8:15.
    • If you arrive after we've determined the play order, we'll add you to the bottom
    • The pull will begin at 9:00pm.
    • We will hold up a short amount of time for stragglers if we know you are on your way before 9:00pm, otherwise we start on time. Once the first spin occurs, no more new participants
    • Plan for about 5 minutes per player. Between 60 - 90 mins depending on how many players
    • When the last player finishes, we cash the TITOs and distribute the cash back to players. To make the math easier, we'll round off to something like the nearest $5 or $10 per player and then burn off the rest in one last-ditch set of spins. For example, on one pull we had 14 players and ended up with $2,850-something. So instead of returning $203.57 to everybody, everybody got their buy-in back and then we burned off the $50-something
    • Although I do want to gauge interest and get informal commitments in this thread for planning purposes, you don't have to RSVP in advance; if you show up with cash before the first spin occurs, you're in. I'm editing this post on June 10 because we now have critical mass to commit. If you add yourself from this point on, please give me your expected count for both the M&G and number of slot pull buy-ins. It's fine if it changes between now and then, I just want to have a decent idea.

I'd be interested in doing another one of these with you. Hopefully, it turns out better than the last one I did with you at the Venetian where no one seemed to have any luck! Hope we can make it happen on July 5th!

Excellent, we're up to either 6 or 7 depending on whether Son Of @SandsFan is buying in...

What’s the new issue regarding getting the “foreign agent” to push the button?

My experience is that they don’t care who pushes the button and don’t care who’s card is in the machine. Casino staff just comes over, asks for an ID and issues a w2g to that person.

(Chuck, please correct me if I'm wrong)

My understanding of this is that legally speaking, the "player" is whoever pushes the buttons... and therefore the "winner" is whoever pushed the button for the wining play.

So if the "winner" is a member of the group who is a US citizen, that will naturally generate a W2G. If the group claims the "winner" is the foreign agent and they don't believe us, they can easily check the security tapes and see who the "player" was to determine how the tax situation will be treated.

If the foreign agent does 100% of the button-presses, though, there's no ambiguity as to who the "player" was... and therefore the "winner" will be taxed accordingly at 0%.

When we're dealing with wins in the thousands of dollars and strict federal tax rules, this isn't really the time to take chances or simply assume they won't care.

For past pulls I've done, we used the UK person's card for all spins, but each player sat at the machine and pressed the button. I've been operating under @meyers67 's theory. But I've looked and looked and I have not seen any definitive first hand accounts of what happens in that situation. So I think I am not messing around with it anymore. I think part of the handpay process probably involves reviewing the tape of the play.

For this next pull, same as before, each player will choose the machine, denom, and per spin amount, and decide when to quit. But at the very least, the UK player is going to be sitting at the machine and his hand is going to be in direct contact with the button (and his card in the machine). But I'm tinkering with the idea of having the player whose stake is being played put their hand on top of his and initiate the spin (or maybe just verbally). I dunno, it's more fun the other way where everybody pushes their own buttons, but I'll fuckin' kill myself if we hit for $5,000 and lose 20% - 30% of it.

We haven't had any handpays yet. The closest we came was an ~$1,150-ish winning spin, and the UK player was actually playing her own stake at the time.

That’s my birthday, and I’m a foreign agent in from New Zealand also..... but, we have dinner reservations at Joe’s at 7.30pm and Ive been waiting to go there since our first Vegas trip in 2012

Can I be a tentative on this one? I may just have to check the board after dinner, and see if it’s ok to catch up then?

Sure. As long as you arrive and find us before the first spin occurs, you're in. My preference is to start the spin at 9:00pm. So you have a shot.

Hi - I’ve never done a gathering or slot pull, but I will be in town July 4-7 and I’m interested. Let me know where to be and when!

I would have to agree that it is probably not worth the risk. Mr. UK Should press the button each time even though that would remove a little bit of fun for everyone. In the event of a large pay out, no one will care who pushed the button. In fact you will be glad that it was Mr. UK.
I am one of those that will be downtown on the 5th wishing you all good luck. Who knows I might even make an effort to join you.

Great! As soon as we get to 10 players, I'll take "Tentative" off of the thread title and edit the original post to firm up the details.

You can look at it this way: It takes all the pressure off the individual players. :D

I edited the OP to firm up the M&G at 8:00pm and the slot pull at 9:00pm. This gives people a little more padding for dinner plans and for people who are staying downtown.
