LVA or ACG, or neither? Very low-roller at MGM

I come to Vegas every year, spend very little gambling but see shows and dine out a lot. On average I spend maybe one night on Freemont per my week-long trips. Would either of these be an investment?

    Hi Eugene!

For the ACG, often you can find one for in the $15 ish range (sometimes less). Definitely check out the list of coupons it has in it

http://www.americancasinoguide.com/2017-american-casino-guide-coupon-list (sorted by region, then alphabetically by casino property within each region)

before you purchase, but if you are planning on using even one or two of the big coupons, then often the book's cost can be recouped from just those one or two uses. Then the rest is a complete freeroll. For example, if you were already planning on eating at / playing any of the following:

ACG: Oscar's steakhouse @ Plaza - up to $50 savings
$25 Match Plays @ The D and Plaza downtown, and SLS Las Vegas (approx expected value +$12.97 ish each, and are great value for table games players even if you don't normally play this high, only take a minute)

LVA: Palms $50 off all purpose coupon ($50)
Cosmopolitan Buffet (Buy 1 get 1 free, can be up to $49 savings)
Free Slot Play and Table Match Play - $10 / $25 each with expected values of roughly +9.81 and +12.97 each respectively.
Many off strip 2/1 buffets or 50% off 1 buffet - $5-20 savings each

Same with the buffets, if you are already planning on going to even just 2 or 3 of those, its a pretty easy value buy.

Wouldn't recommend changing / adding plans just to use a coupon tho, check it out for yourself!

LVA, coming in at (?? $40ish ?? somebody help on this one?) is more expensive but same logic applies. LVA has a lot more free slot play / gambling coupons, especially downtown, but generally requires a bunch of bouncing around to realize its full value, and neither have a ton of value for the strip.

Wow thank you so much! I just purchased ACG! This will be a great excuse to explore more and had actually made a reservation at Oscar's earlier this week.

Oh, nice that worked out great! Taking 25% off your tab there should about pay for the ACG right there - plus its good for the whole table's bill (if more than 1 person) up to $50 total. Just remember that the ACG version (if I remember correctly) is only valid Sunday - Thursday officially (although sometimes they'll take it anyway).

Another way to maximize your value is to trade coupons you won't use for those you will use - look for Trade posts in this area of the board.

ACG has several food coupons that you can use at MGM also - like Original Chicken Tenders (yummy), Nathan's, Johnny Rockets, etc. Be sure to check on those.

Also, Hooters is close by and has wings, freeplay and matchplay. Not going too far out of your way to use those.

At Downtown Grand, the craps and 5x coupons - turn these in to the slot club for $10 free slot play for each of those coupons (they changed the terms and conditions after printing).

The MSS, California and Fremont coupons for earn 250 points for breakfast, lunch or brunch or the 500 points for dinner are also good if you can get some traction (cycling wins to build points). If you play at California, it is good for the MSS buffet. Not a big fan of the Fremont buffet personally, but others like it.

We like the 2/1 Binions burger coupon for lunch also. Turn in at slot club first though.

Four Queens 2/1 entrée in Magnolias is good for a lunch or dinner also (not valid on breakfast).

The Golden Nugget 2/1 buffet (Monday - Friday only) is a good play also.

Plaza and Golden Nugget both have 2/1 drink coupons also.

Enjoy couponing! It's fun and can help stretch your bankroll.

    Cheers,
    Kelly

If you're willing to tour every downtown casino to use your play coupons, both books pay for themselves in expected value. But since that is at most one night on a special trip downtown, you have to seriously ask yourself if it is worth it.

Most of the strip coupons come more down to food discounts and the like, so the standard there would be "would I eat there without the coupon". If so, it adds value.

Neither have anything significant for anything on the South Strip (MB down to Monte Carlo) other than the previously mentioned Hooters and a couple coupons for Orleans, if you count that as "South". For the most part, ACG is totally lacking for the entire Strip especially when I no longer even count the extreme North side.

LVA has 2-for-1 buffets at Cosmo (enough all by itself), Mirage, Orleans and all the places downtown AND at each Stations casino, plus $10 off at both PH and Caesars. Not to mention $50 in FREE slotplay downtown PLUS $25 matchplays at Downtown Grand, Plaza and Golden Gate. Its a serious no-brainer to get the LVA if you're staying more than a couple days or if you make multiple trips in a calendar year.
