Flew in from Chicago on National. Got to the airport 2.5 hours early. Get there early folks. Two hours before the flight time is too late, unless you really enjoy waiting in line. Drove to Laughlin on Saturday and stayed at Harrahs. The road to Laughlin is very crowded with trucks and RV's due to diverted traffic from the dam. Expect the drive to be a couple hours. This was my first trip to Laughlin and I quite enjoyed it. The view of the river is beautiful and Harrahs has that great beach. Returned to LV on Sunday and stayed at Treasure Island. The rooms and service were A+. It seems like the tourism is picking up. It was quite crowded on Sunday night. A lot of big groups of European tourists floating around. Monday was a little quieter, but there was a big influx of tourists on Tuesday. My guess is people are taking advantage of the National offer. A non-gambling thing we did was go on a sunset horse ride with Cowboy Trail Rides. This was a really fun trip and the people involved were great. I highly recommend it to anyone who is slightly adventurous. You get to see a part of LV that most people miss and the desert is gorgeous. Returned home on Wednesday morning. Again, got to the airport very early, and needed the extra time. You now must show ID at the gate when boarding, and they do a lot of random searches. I recommend checking as much luggage as you can, because if they don't search it at check in, they might at the gate.
Thanks for the info. We leave 2 weeks from today (hopefully ) from Midway via Southwest Airlines. I was thinking of trying to get there 3 hours before departure, especially since it will be a Friday afternoon. Hopefully this will be enough time. If anyone has other thoughts....
