We caught the airport shuttle from Lawrence, Kansas to take us to the Kansas City, Mo airport (about 1 hour away).
About 16 miles away from the airport and 1.5 hours from take-off our shuttle dies on the highway. We all freak out since most of us have flights within the next hour or two.

Long story short, another shuttle picks us up a few minutes later so no harm done.

Check in with no probs, boarded and took-off effortlessly.

Touch down in very bumpy winds of 100MPH but that's okay, it is VEGAS BABY! It is around noonish.

Walk thru airport in awe. Just for kicks we put $5 in a slot near baggage claim and lost so we stopped and just waited for our bag. It came fairly quickly though even a minute seemed a long time for us! Take shuttle to Luxor. We were the second stop so it wasn't bad.

Checked in at the "Group check in" since someone told us it would be quicker than checking in upstairs. It took FOREVER! Long lines, and slow personnel.

We are up! No $20 trick today, very crowded and rooms are going FAST. Also, the boss is looming over the employees. We ask for a high room with a King sized bed but the only ones available with King beds are on the second floor. So we take a two Queen beds on the 13th floor facing the Exalibur. I was almost in tears...I wanted Strip view with ONE bed but I reluctantly take what I can get. Also, what's with the 13th floor??? I thought most all modern hotels take that out for superstious reasons. Especially in VEGAS of all places where luck is KING!

Oh well...hubby and I tread up the escalator to where our inclinator was located. Rode the inclinator....very weird feeling.

Got to our room and I LOVED the view! The Excalibur was beautiful at night with the lights on!

Freshend up and headed down stairs for some gambling and looking around.

Ate dinner at McDonalds. Yummy. I am all about fast food no expensive restaurants for me!

After we finished eating we gambled on some slots. I started with $20 and won $144 in the first half hour. Played with some winnings and lost some.

Decided to call Mom & Dad back in Kansas to let her know we arrived safely. While on the phone, hubby played a slot nearby just to pass time. He likes to play more than one machine at a time so he was playing two in a row of three machines. (Quarter machines by the way).

I got off the phone with Moms and went to sit down next to hubby. Played $5 and lost. He was playing the two machines next to me and so I decided to play the one he wasn't sitting at. So I took over his other machine. He had two credits in. I hit the "Play Max" button (only two credits with this machine) and won 10 credits. Hit the max button again and this time I won $400 dollars!!!!! Ran to phone to call Mom back again to let her know that the 13th floor room we were assigned was not a bad thing afterall! Hung up after the good news just in time to recieve my hand-pay. Yipppeee! Tipped three dollars and we left to regroup.

Decided to try other slots and wound up winning and losing back and forth.

Later we took tram to Excalibur, played slots there (not impressed) and ate some ice cream from their Cold Stone Creamery. (Great place)!!

Walked around Excalibur for remainder of night. Went back to Luxor and went to bed about midnight. I wanted to stay up later, but we had a very long day and I was falling asleep standing up so we called it a night.

Day Two coming up....

Hi,

Great Report. My wife and I are heading to Luxor this summer for our first Vegas trip, so this report was very helpful to us.

You said you took the shuttle to the Luxor. Is that worth it instead of taking a Taxi ? How much did it cost ?

Also, I have heard check in at the Luxor is brutal. There is more than one place to check in ? Which is better ? We will be arriving around 11:00 on a Sunday afternoon.

Thanks ahead for any responses.

Taxi for that end of the strip runs 8-12 bucks while the shuttle is 7.50-8.50 round trip. shuttle is more frugal unless you have 4-5 people. Usually only takes a few moments to fill a bus. You call the night before for pickup (for return trip).
My recommendation is ALC ( owned by LVL) Look for the LVL shack at the airport by the baggage claims. they have the purple shuttle buses.

We stayed at Luxor last summer, checked in on a Thursday night. We had problems finding the lobby from where the shuttle dropped us off, but we used the normal check-in, not group, and it didn't take us very long at all. I can't recall a line, as a matter of fact. And we were CRANKY--had been stuck on the tarmac for 4 hours in Dallas sitting out thunderstorms and "tornadic" activity....If you can't check in yet, you can leave your bags at the bell desk and go off exploring. Have fun!!!

You will like the Luxor! It was a nice place.

We over paid I found out. We bought our package thru Expedia.com and paid an extra $8 a person for a shuttle roundtrip from the airport and back to the airport at the end of our stay. I think we could have gotten a cab for cheaper.

If you take the shuttle, you will more likely be dropped off at the back entrance of the Luxor. You can either check in at the group check in which is the very first right once you go thru the doors, or you can take the escalator up to the next floor and take a left and walk until you reach the main check in. It is a bit of a walk but it may be worth it if the group check in is crowded.

It was a double-diamond which took quarters and was a two-coin max bet. :D
