Considering Luxor and Mandalay Bay for this fall's football weekend. Have never stayed at either place. Any insight on the race and sportsbooks? We're a bunch of 50+ guys who like to bet the horses and watch football all day Saturday and Sunday. Not huge drinkers but like to have a couple while watching games.

If you're choosing between the two, Mandalay Bay is the way to go for me. It's one of my favorite books in town.

Agree with the last post. MB is a very large, solid book. Luxor is small. A group of 50+ would occupy the majority of the seating for the entire book. if you're wanting to watch football all day on Saturday and Sunday though, you either need to either get reserved seats or plan on being in the book at 7am or earlier. And honestly unless you are one of the biggest players the casino has ever had, they aren't going to reserve you 50+ seats on a football weekend

Pretty sure he meant the ages of the group are over 50 years old... lol

+1 Mandalay Bay is our favorite sportsbook. It is large and is a popular place for watching NFL games. Approximately how many guys are in your group?

Big fan of the sports book at Mandalay Bay. FYI -- They recently switched it to non-smoking.

Also - the Delano is a closer walk to the sports book and the rooms are nicer, IMO.

    Mandalay Bay is awesome overall!
But I do like Luxor as it isn't as big and is darker inside. I watched American Pharoah win the triple crown there and the place was pretty lively although there wasn't a place to sit.

That is what I meant. Should have been more clear.

There are dedicated tables with individual monitors for horse race bettors on the left side of the book as you approach the betting windows from the MB casino floor. Those rows furthest from the betting windows should provide the best angle for viewing football via the large screens on the wall. I don't know if individual monitors in the horse section allow you to view football games as we've never sat in that area. If they are the same monitors as those used in the reserved section up the steps (in the corner next to the railing) opposite the video poker bar, then you should be able to watch major football games as well as horse races from the individual monitors.

Arrive early to secure the best seating options and be kind to your cocktail waitress :)

    Enjoy your football weekend!
