I was wondering the best way to get from LRH to Leicester Square. The Tube's Piccadilly Line goes direct from Term 5 to Leicester Square but I was wondering if it's better to take a regular train to Paddington Station and connect somehow to Leicester Square

Not a Londoner but try to visit whenever I can, and the Heathrow Express train to Paddington is the only way I will travel from the airport into Central London. The train ride itself is 15 minutes, which is faster than the tube, taxi or bus (I have taken them all in the past). Once you get to Paddington Station, you will have to make 2 transfers on the Tube to get to Leicester Square. So you can always taxi or Uber from Paddington if you don't want to do that with luggage (I don't recommend).

Otherwise, yes, Piccadilly Line does go direct to Leicester Square, so that's the easiest. But it's rather slow.

You should investigate the Elizabeth Line rather than Piccadilly or Heathrow Express. Take to Tottenham Court Rd and then change to Northern line.

This was what I came here to say. Elizabeth Line is the way from Heathrow, whenever possible. The Piccadilly line is cramped under the best of circumstances, and this way you only have one transfer.

Just make sure if you're flying delta you take the cc you used to book the flight

Like @Bibemus said but if you are comfortable walking a few minutes take the Elizabeth line to Tottenham station and just walk from there, then it is a one ride deal with no transfers and no waiting around. It is a ten minute walk from Leicester Square.

Those £5 slot limits are probably good for me but they are annoying, I'll be back in London in a week!

Quickest way but most expensive is Heathrow Express to Paddington then Tube/cab to Leicester Square. You can sometimes prebook online though for the HE and save money that way.

Cheapest way is Tube direct from Heathrow but that takes over an hour.

Elizabeth Line is middle in both price and time plus you still have to use the Tube or walk from Tottenham Court Road.

Personally I always take Tube as can normally get a seat from LHR. When on business though its the Heathrow Express.

Agree with all of this. I’m taking the Heathrow Express next week to get to LHR ahead of my flight to LAS and I got a price I was happy with by booking online in advance.

I usually drive and park at the airport but decided to take the train this time as the cost of parking at LHR is just getting crazy.

Going through all my papers, I see that I've already purchased RT tickets on the trainline ($30 total), so I suppose it's Paddington Station for me and my suitcase. I can taxi over to Leicester Square, but what's the rush; my plane lands at 6:30 and check-in is 15:00.

Like all over Europe, there is no early check-in...well, maybe at 14:55 if the desk manager takes pity on you sleeping in a chair in his lobby ;) . But I'm staying in a studio flat with no front desk. I'm on my own for 7 hours with a suitcase in tow. How can people complain about Vegas when Europe always puts you through this?

Anyway, I can see in the future that it's the Elizabeth Line from LHR. Thanks to everyone for their input

Google Maps suggests the following. Personally I'd try to change my flight to LHR instead :stir:

Elizabeh line to Tottenham Court Road, or Picadilly Line to Leicester Square.
There is a contactless card method for tapping in and out of London tube stations so you don’t have to buy tickets.

As a foreigner though check that your bank doesn’t charge you a fee for foreign currency transactions.

My advice is use google maps. It’ll always tell you the best way to navigate London by public transport, or on foot if you’re walking distance.

When we were in London, I found it really prioritized additional walking. Some people might not mind walking 15 minutes to save 5 minutes, but my wife and I are not those people. I never really found a happy medium when messing with the settings.
