This was a very entertaining trip report....I am heading to down a few times before the end of the year and hope to catch a Hockey game there as well.

I can also second this PSA....I found out this the hard way. Nothing like some stitches and a scar to forever remind me of a particular Vegas trip.

Caught back up to this. All inclusive tickets near the glass for <$100. That's a deal even in preseason!

And good run with VP near the end too! Looked like you had a great time!

    Post-Trip Recap.

I was intending to write this after soon I got home, but the events of Sunday night really threw me. It was heart-breaking to wake up Monday morning to the terrible news from Las Vegas (and frantic texts from friends and family trying to confirm that I was safely back on the east coast). My thoughts are with all of those affected by the tragedy. On a personal note, I found it particularly disconcerting because it's not something I ever worried about in Las Vegas. When I traveled to the middle east a few months ago, I worried about terrorist attacks but I never worried about that for a second when planning my Vegas trip. And while this may not meet the technical definition of "terrorism", it feels terroristic to me. Scary that it can happen any time, any where. It won't stop me from returning to Vegas and having a fantastic time, but it does make one pause and reflect.

Phew. I don't do serious often --- it's tough for me. On to lighter things.

When this started I promised all of you the following:
    Low Rolling Hijinks
    Lots of Video Poker
    Football Watching
    Copious Alcohol Consumption
Me Being Weirdly Cheap about Food and Beverage (when not comped)
    A Couple Non-Gambling Days While I'm Working
    Sigma Derby

I like to think I delivered --- with perhaps the exception of Sigma Derby, which I only played twice. I usually end up hitting up Sigma Derby more often when I've blown my bankroll for the day or am taking a beating and need to take a break. Luckily the VP Gods were good to me this trip and I never needed the cheap gambling outlet.
Now lets see how I did on my To-Do List:
    • VGK Pre-Season Game or Two - Completed and awesome. The upper bowl experience was fun and the glass seat experience was amazing. The only regret --- now anything besides glass seats for my December trip feels kind of disappointing. But since those tickets currently start at $750 each, it's not going to happen.
    • Dinner at Le Cirque - I'm calling this complete as I ended up having a fantastic tasting menu experience at Michael Mina. (And really, Le Cirque was just code for fancy-pants restaurant).
    • Ka and/or Zumanity ---- Fail. One of these days --- although I'll take a hockey game over Cirque do Soleil any day.
    • Light Dinner at Morimoto - Fail. It turns out Morimoto wasn't covered by my resort credit and I was too cheap to shell out for another high end dinner when I had just eaten at Michael Mina.
And did I get a chance to do the Things That Are Always on My To-Do List, But That I Never Manage to Actually Do?
    • Pinball Hall of Fame - Nope. But my dad is making noises about maybe joining me on my December trip and he loves pinball ---so hopefully next time.
    • Dinner at Hugo's Cellar - Nope. But I liked playing at 4Queens and their comps add up quick, so maybe in the future.
    • Finally Learning How to Play Craps - Not even close. I hear a rumor that Mark and Dr. Mike from You Can Bet on That are coming to the east coast next year. Maybe I'll go to that meetup and finally figure out the puzzle that is craps.
    • Pizza Rock (this will be the trip, I swear) --- It was! And it was amazing! I'm pretty sure this is going to turn into an every-trip place for me.
    • Not Being Lame and Managing to Stay Up Past Midnight Every Night - While I technically stayed up past midnight every night, I was in my room in bed reading before midnight most nights. I might just need to embrace my lameness.
    • Big Elvis - Nope.
    • Drinking Enough Water to Ward Off Hangovers - Shockingly, yes. I did a much better job of pacing. Ordering a water every time I ordered an alcoholic beverage helped tremendously.
    • Loco Moco @ Aloha Specialty - Still no. Walked by a few times and always an exceedingly long line. But maybe next trip. I have some Boyd comps burning a hole in my pocket -- can they be used here?
    • Mac King - Yes and it was amazing! For the money, I don't think there is a better deal in Las Vegas.
    And some trip superlatives:
    • Best Bite: Michael Mina --- by far --- if you can swing the $$$$, absolutely do it. Flawless service. Amazing food. Great wine pairings.
    • Best (Cheaper) Food: Pizza Rock --- $4 meatballs that are big enough to qualify as a small meal? Yes, please.
    • Best Prime Rib Special: El Cortez
    • Best Bathroom: Bellagio
    • Worst Beer: Ellis Island's Light --- Blech!
    • Best Sip: Cakebread Chardonnay @ VGK game.
    • Best Gambling Drink Service: Sigma Derby @ the D
    • Best VP Bar: Tie between Boar's Head (MSS) and Ike's Bar (El Cortez)
    • Best Dive Bar: Stage Door --- If you've ever been hesitant to go here (like I was before), get over yourself and go. It's awesome!
The whole Trip Reporting thing was more fun and less invasive/distracting than I thought it would be. Thank you so much for following along. I'm headed off on another (non-Vegas) trip this weekend and kind of sad that there isn't a board to live TR a visit to Detroit and rural Canada. I'm hoping to do more TRs here in the future and I'm totally open to any advice on how to make things better next time. Until then - good luck and happy Vegas-ing!

It was good to meet you however briefly at the Boar's Head during your trip. Sorry we didn't have more time to visit but I throughly enjoyed you TR. good luck and DO bring dad for the PHofF. If he is/was really into pinball at some point you will get a kick out of his face and eyes upon entering and recognizing things not seen for many years.

Great TR, enjoyed meeting you! You're an east coast person, anything after 9pm in Vegas counts as after midnight!

Very odd. Questions about hockey and poutine are all over the Canadian citizenship test.

Maybe they meant they were Cambodian :)
