Last trip, had a cabbie who feigned not understanding English, after I repeadetdly made it clear not to take the highway from McCarren to Strip. I pulled out my phone and asked him if I should get the Taxi Authority to help translate. Miracle! He suddenly understood English. Better than Rosetta Stone.

The taxi situation is so unfortunate.

Years ago, I very much enjoyed catching cabs, chatting with the drivers, and enjoying a pleasant trip.

    Sadly, it has become adversarial.

When I departed downtown during August, 2011, I had a choice of catching the Wax or a quicker cab.
I caught the cab, got longhauled, and had to dish out $50. I had won a good bit, but that put a negative spin on my last hour there.

So, when I departed downtown 8/7/12, I spent all of $1 for the WAX (Sr. Citizen discount card).
That made me feel a lot better.

For those of us that dislike being adversarial, figuring out the bus schedule seems like time well spent.

I've taken cabs from the airport to the Flamingo the last several trips and, after a REALLY BAD experience years ago, I've changed my approach. BEFORE I get into the cab, I nicely tell the driver I come to LV many times every year and I'd like to go to the Flamingo via Tropicana to Koval. Ok? They have said yes each time and the fare is usually in the $15 range. Any problem or 'not understanding', then I'm not getting in the cab.

I'm a girlish 50, traveling alone which I am totally accustomed to doing, and I am absolutely not going to get into a logistics argument alone in a car with a cabbie....again. Someone could get hurt.

I completely agree with you about the Harrahs bfast buffet, it is absolutely one of the most solid ones, consistently good.

I had to laugh out loud at your description of the Margaritaville waitresses! I played there for several hours last week and you are correct, they are awesome. Hey, I'm a gal and a VERY straight one at that, but even I noticed how beautiful they were. If I looked like that, I'd be showing it too. If I were a guy, I'd probably never leave.

Last but certainly not least, sincere congrats on your college graduation! Not an easy task, but one that will pay off in spades, and most certainly worth a first-class trip!

Thanks for the TR! Your gambling and drinking escapades are helping get me pumped up for my trip in a couple weeks! Sounds like you did pretty well, overall.

That was fun, thanks for writing it up. The drinks service at the V/P is traditionally bad, I agree. Last time I was there (Pallazo) on a busy night I actually did get a drink. I then moved to the other end of the casino and low and behold was greeted by the same waitress. She had almost half of the floor to cover by herself and was she ever hustling.

Thanks for the wonderful TR! We will definitely stay away from the Riviera and slots of fun! Will also be sure and try some of the casinos you've talked about!
