I'm setting off from London in two week's time to get to the 2019 WSOP. I was offered the opportunity to retire early from work and, having just hit my 59th birthday, I leapt at the chance. This means that I've been able to fulfil a long held ambition to travel around the world.

My wife and I are heading to Vegas by going south, then east, hitting South Africa, Hong Kong, China, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Argentina and Mexico before arriving in Boston next April. From there, we have an epic road trip planned to get to Vegas in early to mid June for the Series. Timing will be finalised once the schedule is announced.

If there's an opportunity to play some poker en route, I'll take it, but bankroll management requires us to make sure we have enough to enjoy WSOP.

I'll update the thread from time to time with progress, and deliver extracts from my blog, worldafterwork.com

    See you in June.

    Bri

That sounds amazing Bri - can't wait to hear about this, and hopefully experience the entire journey (not just Vegas). I hope to be in a similar position as I approach retirement as well. Safe travels, looking forward to hearing and seeing more. And I may see you in Vegas :)

This should have some epic updates.

I lived in Japan for 2.5 years and loved it.

    Enjoy the world tour.

Thanks, Marky147. At first glance looks like there are fewer events.

They've only released the weekend/special events so far, and I'm guessing the full schedule will be out next month.

Think they did the same last year, if I'm not mistaken.

Let's start with an apology for throwing this out there months ago and then seriously neglecting you guys by not providing any follow up whatsoever. We've been on the road since November 28th when we left London and I have been trying to keep my blog up to date at www.worldafterwork.com but that's no excuse for creating a thread on the best board in the world then abandoning it.

We arrived in Auckland yesterday. Yesterday New Zealand time anyway, which is 13 hours ahead of the UK, so 21 hours ahead of Vegas. Or 3 hours behind, but tomorrow. Time is definitely relative. We've been to South Africa, Hong Kong, China, Macau (no poker tournaments anywhere, and only limited cash games for the recreational player), Japan (where I sang on stage with a Japanese Bluegrass band), Australia (where we both became qualified open water scuba divers on the Great Barrier Reef), and now we're here. Playing a NZ$550 tournament at SkyCITY Casino. Well, my wife is. I bust already. Tomorrow, we leave Auckland for Christchurch and spend the next couple of weeks touring the country.

I've been keeping an eye on the WSOP schedule with a view to trying to manage the US Road Trip portion of our travels. I'm loving the look of the Big 50 so there's a strong chance that we end up spending five weeks in Vegas from the start of June. More if either of us runs deep in the Main.

I promise I will try to do better with the news, and it should hopefully be easier the closer we get to the US portion of the trip. We're due to land in Boston the weekend of the marathon - terrible planning on my part. But we start heading south quickly and west shortly after that.

    Cheers all
    B

Just a quick poker update. The Auckland tournament had 70 entries, including some rebuys, but they were only paying 8 places which seemed a little mean. Especially when my wife bust in 11th place. She shoved 10 bigs with pocket 8s and was called by suited connectors which hit the straight. Poker.

We flew to Christchurch this morning and don't see another poker table for a while. Probably not until we hit the US in April.

    Cheers
    B
