    My Trip Report

Hello everybody! As the title suggests, I have poking around on the board for quite a while now. I just wanted to start off by saying thank you to everyone for advice and entertainment I have gleaned!

I apologize in advance for the long intro and setup. If you don't feel like reading it all, the TLDR version is that this will be my 13th trip to Vegas since my very first one back in April 2017. I typically travel with my wife, but this will be a solo weekend centered around Wild Card weekend for the NFL. It is the first time I have ever had a multi-day solo trip. I have a direct flight out today at 2pm eastern and return Monday morning via another direct flight. I will do my best to keep up with this report as often as I can.

    Personal Background:
I am in my late 20's and have obviously been to Vegas quite a lot in the past few years. My first ever trip was with my wife to see the Backstreet Boys residency (more for her then, I love them just as much now) and I remember coming across this board while researching that trip via a Youtube video from the great Matt Bridger! I always keep up on all the latest happenings with Vegas and this board and everyone who knows me always asks "when is your next trip to Vegas". As mentioned, my lovely wife (together for 10 years, married for 2.5, engagement and honeymoon in Vegas) almost always travels with me, but she already has two other non-Vegas trips planned this month and wasn't able to take the time off work to join me. I will miss getting to hang out with her, but she gets bored by football so probably works out.

    Trip Background:
This trip was planned very last minute as I just booked everything this week. I have Monday off work, had no plans, and thought what the heck, Vegas would be a great place to take in Wild Card weekend and celebrate the end of some stressful past few months at work. I'll spare the details, but I work at a small business in Accounting and have had to take on the work of 2 people since early November. It hasn't been horrible, but we have a new guy starting on Tuesday so I am looking forward to having the help.

Anyway, I will spending all three nights at Bally's in a comped room, paying only resort fees. Direct flights both ways are great, and I even signed up for YouTube Premium to watch vlogs on the plane (I am big into Poker vlogs and general Vegas vlogs). More details below on what to expect during my time there, and I am going to be actively keeping up with the report as I have time. I am not a big picture-taker, but know that enhances the report so hopefully I will remember to add some in.

    Gambling:
I dabble in a little bit of everything depending on how I feel. You can expect mostly video poker, bubble craps, blackjack, and sports betting.

    Eating/Drinking:
I have two places I have gone on almost every trip and will make sure to hit again this trip - Mon Ami Gabi for brunch and Pizza Rock. Outside of that, I am planning on hitting up Yard House tonight for happy hour but then have no other dining plans. We'll just see how I feel. In terms of drinking, yes. I am going to do my best not to get out of hand as the thought of being hammered and forgetting where my room is is not something I want to happen! Also, I love grabbing edibles at the beginning of the trip and nibbling on those throughout the day.

    Tentative Plans:
Friday will be getting unpacked (I always unpack before doing anything else - just makes me feel at home) then hitting the strip for the day. As mentioned, gonna start at Yard House for dinner then stroll north with my eyes on Planet 13 to pick up some goodies. I plan to stop at various casinos along the way and plopping in a 20 or so. I don't plan to be out late as I actually want to get up and do a workout Saturday morning.

Saturday will start early with a morning workout. I always work out Saturday morning and don't want to skip if I can help it! Then plan to hit Mon Ami for brunch before riding downtown for a full afternoon. Atomic Liquors, flight match plays at El Cortez and the D, meal at Pizza Rock, and watching both games at various VP bars are on the menu.

Sunday I have no real plans. Obviously going to watch the games all day, but I'll be just going with the flow. Definitely want to watch at least one game in the Cosmo sportsbook as I have great memories of past games there.

If you made it this far, thank you and looking forward to sharing this trip with you! Next update should hopefully come from the airport. I am still at my office "working" so still have some stuff to pack up before heading out!

Made it to the gate with plenty of time to spare. If anyone has ever flown out of Louisville, you know that security never takes more than 15 minutes or so. Spirit sent me an email earlier this week that lines have been longer and to arrive at least 2 hours early; glad I stuck with my prior experiences and didn’t do that. In and out of security in 8 minutes, no pre check.

Sitting at the gate now and should be boarding soon. As has been my tradition for the past few trips, I will ingest a little special candy right before boarding. I always carry it in the same mint punch I’ve gotten great mileage out of the past few years. Testing posting a picture of that now. CF4EFDEB-6AC0-4D8D-8426-FB220D7846EB.jpeg

An early big win - nobody in the middle seat next to me. About to push back. I’ll see everyone on the ground in Vegas!

Glad you're posting! It can be a lot of fun. As for the room issue: when you check in, take a picture of your room number. That way, you only have to remember which hotel

Good luck! What airline did you fly? I'll be there this weekend as well flying United. We'll see if I can pull a fast one on The D and see if they honor my boarding pass. Also, see if they'll give you a match play chip for mentioning Brian Christopher or Richard Wilk.

    drunken pro tip

text yourself the room number or add it to whatever app you use on your phone for notes.

i've also set up a reminder on google keep with the room number that is tied to a geographic location (i.e. your hotel).

if you write it on a piece of paper that you put in your wallet - put a dollar sign next to it to make it not obvious that it's the room number in the unlikely scenario that somebody finds/steals your wallet. (room 2135 = $2,135, etc.)

I’m here and all settled and unpacked. Travel was very smooth with the flight right on time. For the person who asked earlier, I flew Spirit (which I believe is one of the ones offered at the D). Spirit sometimes get a bad reputation, but I have absolutely loved when I have flown with them. Seats aren’t any smaller than other budget airlines and they’ve been on time with no hassle.

Check in had no wait and I was off with my room key from the kiosk in no time. I love the size and layout of the rooms at Bally’s and the presence of a refrigerator.

In regards to the room number, those were great suggestions. I ended up just texting it to my wife so I know I can find it in that message. Although she was questioning why I would forget it in the first!

I’m gonna head over to Caesars real fast to acquaint myself with the 5 lucky spots. I’ve done this for the past few trips since (shoutout yet again) I was turned onto it by a Matt Bridger vlog. Probably make a pit stop at the sportsbook to get a bet in to sweat at dinner.

So as you saw above, my foray to Caesars was successful. I really just stopped to play a second to have a beer and figure out who to bet on tonight. The winnings paid for my sports bets, so that’s a winner no matter what.

Now at Yard House for happy hour. I’m pretty sure I overheard the hostess say this is the last week they are doing happy hour? May be misinformation, but wanted to put it out there.

Just confirmed yard house will not be doing a happy hour after this week. What a bummer, always one of my favorites especially for craft beer

Stopped off at Casino Royale on my way up the strip. Realized I never had done the first 20 back. Lost the first 20 and got back 15 so cashed out. A little too smoky in there for me. Off to TI as I head towards Planet 13

Ugh TI offers that crappy paytable now? Which Bar was this?

They were pretty good at the Golden circle sports bar, but that was before Covid too when I was last there.

Good luck the rest of the way!

Cashed out of TI a little bit after the 4 for 4. Up $25 as I had lost a real quick 20 prior without even getting a drink. TI is really slow; admittedly I don’t come up here a lot but for a Friday night it seems dead

Just checked on my way out. At the sportsbook bar it’s 175 instead of 150 for bonus. Didn’t check the rest
