Received this from a MGM contact regarding the current 12% lodging tax charged on all rooms as well as resort fees. I believe the increase in March is to account for the football stadium costs. This isn't just for MGM properties, but, I believe, all hotels in Vegas.

Please, let's keep politics out of any of this discussion. Thanks!

As you may be aware, the 2016 Nevada state legislature has mandated an increase in the transient lodging (room) tax rate. The tax rate will change as follows:

    · Effective January 15, 2017, the tax will increase from 12% to 12.5%

For reservations arriving or in-house on January 15, 2017 thru February 28, 2017, the 12.5% room tax will be charged for all reservations, even those booked prior to January 15, 2017.

    · Effective March 1, 2017, the tax will increase again from 12.5% to 13.38%

For reservations arriving or in-house on March 1, 2017 or thereafter, the 13.38 % room tax will be charged for all reservations, even those booked prior to January 15, 2017.

    ________________________________________________________________________________________

This new tax mandate will also affect resort fees.

    · Effective January 15, 2017 thru February 28, 2017

The 12.5% tax on resort fees will go into effect for all guests checking in, even those booked prior to January 15, 2017.

    · Effective March 1, 2017

The 13.38% tax on resort fees will go into effect for all guests checking in, even those booked prior to March 1, 2017.

Resort fees are getting a tad out of hand
$40 is a bit much when it doesn't even include parking.

I will admit that I'm taking the pen in the desk drawer.
    Those are expensive ballpoints!

    Are parking fees taxed yet?

I don't know. The legislature has yet to mandate the 2017 resort fee dollar to pen ratio.

Sorta sucks if the NFL won't let the Raiders move.

    yesterday -
The commissioner also confirmed that NFL required the Rams to include the option of accommodating a second team in their stadium when owner Stan Kroenke was granted approval to move his organization to Los Angeles.

As for Las Vegas being a potential relocation option for the Raiders, Goodell said there were "some very positive signs" associated with the city.

"I think there are some real strengths to the Las Vegas market," he said. "It's clear that the Las Vegas market has become a more diversified market, more broadly involved with entertainment, hosting big events. And there's a growth to the market."

That was smart of the city to make the tourists pay for the stadium. I've got a better idea. The NFL team that moves there should pay for it.

    Charge 'em for the lice
    Extra for the mice
Two percent for looking in the mirror twice
    Here a little slice
    There a little cut
Three percent for sleeping with the window shut

All jokes aside, the Circus Circus West Tower room I PAID for two springs ago @ $24 per night plus $14-ish resort fee was WAY nicer
than the Luxor Pyramid Deluxe Queen room or the MGM West Wing King room that were comps on my trip this summer!
I still ended up paying $38 per night in resort fees for those crappy comp rooms.

Geez these fees generally don't bother me but it's getting absurd. Maybe I will become a downtown girl after all :/

In 1982 Al Davis (current Raiders owner's late father) successfully relocated the Raiders to L.A. without the NFL's approval.

These people will never learn they will keep raising fees longest people coming to Vegas; I get my rooms comped but charging nickel and a dime here there unreal. And soon as they losing people who they gonna blame? Local casinos will take all opportunities trying to make people stay instead of Vegas.

The thing about resort fees is that you need to eat tacos.
