    My Trip Report

Hey folks! Made the decision to take a trip down to Connecticut to hit up Foxwoods today.

I received an email for a free battery pack (the kind you charge up at home and then charge your mobile devices while you're on the road), hemmed and hawed a little, and then decided to take the plunge.

Yesterday I texted G (my Vegas travel buddy) to see if he wanted to come along, but he's already got plans for this weekend, so I'll be making the trip solo.

Just finishing up a late breakfast, then I'm going to get ready to head out.

I'm planning on posting a few times during the day, so we'll see what happens!

I hope it's a time for you to recharge--in more ways than one!
    Happy travels!

Almost ready to hit the road. This is my first real completely non-necessary indoor leisure trip since March.

I've been fortunate to be able to continue working from home for a great organization, as well as have the ability to partake in a few outdoor activities such as hiking and some extremely amateur astrophotography (the light pollution is pretty bad where I live, even in the "dark" areas). I see this trip to Foxwoods as my first step towards conquering any hesitation I may have in staying on-track with my upcoming Vegas trip, which is currently 50 days away.

Pit stop at the car wash after hitting up the ATM, Waze says the trip will take 1 hour and 10 minutes, not too bad.

Enjoy your trip. I had friends who went for the day and they said the health precautions are very good.

I’ve made it! I parked at the Fox Tower and they have 2 people taking temperatures (stationary machines) at the entrance to the casino floor from the parking garage.

So far I’ve seen a few people with masks Pulled down around their chins, but for the most part everyone is doing a good job wearing their masks!

The “shortcut” out from the Fox Tower casino to the other casinos is closed, so you have to go the long way through the Tangier Outlets.

Walking through the outlets has definitely brought me closer (physically) to strangers than I have been over the past several months. Not that it’s necessarily busy, but the people shopping at the outlets don’t all seem to care about trying to keep their own distance.

The Great Cedar Casino is way busier than the Fox Tower Casino. I feel like I’m really relying on my mask, and other people wearing their masks, for safety as it’s nearly impossible to 100% social distance walking through the gaming floor.

Plexiglass barriers at all of the tables (including roulette).

Rainmaker Casino is pretty quiet. Guess the party is happening at Great Cedar.

Tried my luck on Buffalo Gold, ended up with zilch.

No joy on 25 cent Red White and Blue either.

Interestingly, the Grand Pequot Casino opted for plexiglass barriers at the slots. I did not see this in the Great Cedar or the Rainmaker Casinos.

Recouped a bit on Wicked Winnings II Diamond with a decent line hit.

    A few closing notes:

No table games at Fox Tower or Rainmaker Casinos. They were only available in the Grand Pequot and Great Cedar Casinos. This is likely why those two areas were significantly more crowded than Fox Tower and Rainmaker.

They had wipes stationed throughout the property, but nobody seemed to use them. They weren’t set up close enough to the slot machines for anyone to bother with them (myself included), but it was nice to know they were available.

I nabbed a picture of the temperature scanners at the entrance to the Fox Tower Casino on my way out.

    7AFAF6C2-1360-47A0-8934-02589CA9FF25.jpeg

    And an obligatory “Foxwoods” photo.

Overall I had a good time and felt fairly safe. I observed several people not really wearing their masks, and they didn’t really have an excuse (such as eating or drinking), but the majority of folks were good doobies.

I will say it’s different getting cocktail service on the floor in addition to trying to adhere to the mask policy...made me drink my drink faster than I normally would have!

Just wanted to post a quick follow-up. It's been 2 weeks since this trip, and I'm still healthy.

I did have a bit of anxiety in the 5-6 days after being at Foxwoods about getting sick. I decided the anxiety (and added stress) wasn't worth it to me (along with some flight changes that I wasn't thrilled about), so I ended up canceling my late August-early September trip to Vegas.

I still have December on the books, and am still holding on to the slight chance that things could be "better" then than they are now...we'll see.
