Even though I live in Md. I'm only 35 minutes from Charlestown Casino in WV. My wife and I went there a little less than two weeks ago, after many years absent, and we budgeted $200 for gambling. A few days later I received an offer for $70 freeplay for two weeks in a row. Last Sunday we left even after churning the free play and budgeting some $'s. We went through a lot of coin in. We are headed there tonight for food and our second generous freeplay gambling offer. I won't go to Md casinos because we never win, and the offers suck.

I've been to Live twice while in the area and really didn't enjoy it. A buddy lives near MGM, went once, and has no desire to return. I'll stick to AC and Vegas.

Just came back from a night in AC and recognized a craps dealer at Oceans who had worked at MGMNH. The dealer said he couldn't wait to get out of MGM, mainly due to the patrons. For a dealer in AC to compare the patrons in AC, who have the reputation of being on the surly side, favorably to the patrons of MGMNH, spoke volumes.

The clientele at MGM has really degraded as the place has aged. Its no longer the hot new spot anymore and we are seeing a lot more of a degen crowd then when it first opened. I really don't spend much time outside of the poker room there anymore. The rules suck and the patrons make it unfun.

I live 15 mins from MGMNH and I'd rather drive 3.5 hours to AC or fly 4.5 hours to Vegas before I gamble, if that puts it into perspective as to how bad it is. Haven't been back in over a year and a half.

The MGMNH winning streak did come to an end in May. MD gaming revenue numbers in May 2019 compared to May 2018:

State down 2.7 pct ($152.3 million)
Live! up 2.8 pct ($53.5 million)
Horseshoe down 14.6 pct ($20.6 million)
MGMNH down 5.1 pct ($59.1 million)

I went back and looked at an old thread where I had indicated that MGMNH revenue increased 23 pct in May 2018 compared to May 2017, so maybe the drop isn't that surprising.

Took the words out of my mouth. Maybe I am not a big enough gambler, but when it's JUST a gambling joint, it doesn't interest me. I stick with Vegas, with the occasional AC.

IMO, you have to be a degen to hit local casinos over and over.

That's my complaint with most all non-Vegas/locals casino. The only place I've seen that doesn't have that feel is the Beau Rivage in Biloxi. You seem to see a lot of people that come there to vacation like they do in Vegas, versus locals spending their grocery money at a machine hoping to hit it big. I recall one time quite a few years ago, I had a dealer at the Mirage who's name tag said he was from AC. I asked him why he came all the way to LV to work when he had casino's right there in his home town. He told me that the mood was horrible there.....people gambling money they shouldn't and then coming back again the next month after the SS check rolled in.

This completely nails the reason I drive 1 hour to BWI, get on a plane 5 hour plane ride vs going 45 minutes to Maryland Live. People aren't on vacation at local casinos, and it often gets VERY dark for them! I've seen people play with mortgage money, and it's not a fun atmosphere. I'm sure people that "Need" to gamble get their fix at Maryland Live, but I am not one.

MD gaming revenue numbers in June 2019 compared to June 2018:

State down 4 pct ($142.9 million)
Live! up 1.7 pct ($49 million)
Horseshoe down 18.2 pct ($18.7 million)
MGMNH down 4.1 pct ($56.9 million)

State had been up 14.1 pct in June 2018 compared to June 2017, with MGMNH up 18.3 pct for that timeframe. So some levelling off seems to be occurring.

I remember going up there on a Saturday morning close to when it opened five years ago and they did have $5 Three-Card Poker and $10 3/2 blackjack. Unfortunately, craps was still expensive at $25. But I haven't been back since, so no clue as to what current conditions are. I thought it was a fairly nice place.

It’s nice, but not fun. That’s my issue with it. They are getting crushed by other casinos, which is a shock because there are always a ton of people in there.

I live in Md. and I've never been to Horseshoe, nor do I ever see any advertising. The powers at be picked a horrible location, as I have driven past it and know the area.
