DTG is my other downtown favorite. Always has a great feel, it’s clean, and not crowded. The guy at the rewards desk was very friendly. I won some sunglasses and a little free play.

I was the only one on a $5 craps table. The dealers were okay, but not super engaged. I played two way hard ways and hit, in rapid succession, the hard six, 8, and 10 on consecutive rolls. I parlays them all (never hit) but the dealers no reaction, even though they won too. In fact, after I get the 10, the next words out of the stickman’s mouth were, no joke, “what’re you having for lunch” to the pit. Lame. But I left with $100 more than I came with, so I’m not complaining.

Circa is very big and very nice.

The sports book is as-advertised, but with one, big caveat…No horse racing! I’d probably still be there betting if I could bet the ponies, but not to be.

    182F110F-F304-4CC4-8E91-C924F805F15C.jpeg 1FCF3E40-7B64-41ED-8AA0-3C012B6F9CFB.jpeg

Then Stadium Swim. I have no photos for you because they wanted to charge me $20. I was clearly not going to swim (I’m wearing jeans and sneakers) and I said I’m going to gamble. The kid working security said that I’d have to go register with a host and then maybe they’d let me up. No thanks. I get that rules are rules, but come on. The guy was pretty rude, too. I can’t imagine that’s the kind of service that Derek wants for his palace.

    59E3A941-2F87-4EEE-B405-DB57BB324BE1.jpeg

Played a little craps…there were two $15 tables open. Great crew and I like the tables…long and not too much bounce. I hit the all tall for me and the dealer and was just two numbers away from the all tall, too. Left down like $30 or something.

My overall review of the resort is that it’s very very nice, lots of good food options, cool design, well thought out, and I’ll almost certainly never stay there.

In fact, my general desire to go downtown has declined with each visit. I may be done. Don’t get me wrong, I had a fun day, but the pros (lots of variety close together, marginally better gambling conditions) are outweighed by the negatives. I’m not bothered by the pot smoke or the unhoused (I mean, I AM bothered by homelessness, but not because I resent them being in my sight lines.) But there are always just too many knuckleheads on Freemont. I have lived in cities my whole life and can handle myself in rougher areas, but I’m not usually walking around with a thousand dollars cash like I am in Las Vegas. Anyway, the strip is more my style these days.

This place has been on my “must do” list for the past five trips, but I never made it here. Well no more motherfucking procrastination. Hello, Frankie. Nice to meetcha.

    C3C99F37-FC33-455D-9D4F-843EFE52222F.jpeg DEE70635-A477-40DB-A27F-97B38D687D58.jpeg

It’s small, it’s dark, it’s smokey. It’s perfect. Remember what I said yesterday (or whenever) about personality vs fancy? It’s maybe not for everyone, but this is a Vegas jewel. Can’t recommend highly enough.

    5D28501E-3996-481A-8E27-6A2700ACF95E.jpeg D3A31F1C-3A0F-4F5C-9D73-407A7ED28CF7.jpeg 6529E773-75A7-435F-BE29-2E0E8D445274.jpeg

I don’t know what I drank, because I asked the bartender to just make me something concoanutty. I had two, and they were good and they were also strong. Did I mention the music? It’s super duper.

I got a souvenir tiki cup and some matchbooks that I probably won’t be allowed to take on the plane and I even won $20 on VP to pay for my Lyft ride home.

I don’t know if Frankie is a guy or a girl, but either way I wanna kiss them square on the lips. Mwah.

Not me making an unprecedented SECOND pool trip?! Park MGM pool is very nice.

By the way, paper straws are just as good as plastic. Stop being whiny babies and deal with it. (Related note: Those of you who have already reported this TR to the VMB mods multiple times shouldn’t bother doing so any more. Just stop following, weirdos. End note.)

One of the first things Phil Ruffin said he was going to do when he took over SAF and CC was to put SAF back to the way it was originally. Then COVID came.

However, once things opened back up and Resort's World announced an opening date, Ruffin should have been putting SAF back to lots of penny slots, nickel vp, at least one cheap craps table out on the walk, some cheap, bad rule bj, and cheap beers and food. Lots of the Resort's World lookey-loos would have checked it out. And Slots-A-Fun would be back on the map.

I can't even imagine how little business it must do in its current state.

Agree, we wondered over there from RW last time we were in town. Thought we'd grab a snack in slots of fun, but the side that used to have food was all covered up.
It did seem cleaned up some, but was dead.

Who the hell is reporting this and why? This is a spectacular report. It's basically what I want my every Vegas trip to look like - and what they would look like if only my wife wanted to drive me to 15 different places every day and watch me slowly dissolve into a drunken puddle of shit while simultaneously pissing away half our money.

I stopped in a few trips back as it was always a must-hit for me in the 90s/early 00s. It was about 2 PM on a Saturday and I was literally the only person there.

Dinner was at Best Friend at Park. All the great things you’ve heard are true. Everything I tasted was next-level and unexpected. Do yourself a favor and go here next time you’re in Vegas.

The very friendly and helpful bartender guided my picks. Slippery shrimp were the highlight, followed closely by the Korean BBQ taco. The ceviche-like thing (I forget what it’s really called) was also excellent. There’s a DJ who played very good but not overly-loud music. The servers all wear old-school Adidas track suits. This is a Vegas gem.

The less that can be said about gambling last night the better. Craps, BJ, roulette, VP…A total wipe-out. It’s almost like the casino feeding me drinks all day leads to me making expensive poor decisions with my money just before bed. Weird. Still a great day overall.

Up bright and early for a walk down south. CFC5C798-AB59-4C1E-A2E8-C059485DF55A.jpeg 580E2253-3AB3-403D-A48C-621C45A3EE3D.jpeg 9AFDA474-E46D-45A2-99A0-DBBC4B800DFF.jpeg 7FA264C8-3197-4841-8ECE-4863934EA930.jpeg

Early morning in Vegas is great because it’s not so hot, table limits are at their lowest, there aren’t many people around, and the ones who are are typically joggers or VERY drunk.

Excal was its typical scummy self.

Luxor was the first place I really fell in love with in this town, and it still holds a really special place in my heart. I know it’ll never happen, but my dream is that MGM dumps some real money into it and brings it back to its former “glory.” As it is, my days of staying here are probably through, thanks primarily to the location. But I still love ya, Lux!

Unsurprisingly, the walkways to/from Excal were not working.

No lines for checkout at 7:30 on a Friday.

I wanted to take a picture of the machine that gave me my first and only Royal Flush, but sadly it’s no longer there. RIP old friend.

I still really like this casino floor. It’s big and dark and has a little of everything. Played craps for a while ($10) with some drunks and the dealers were as good as always.

I made a promise to a man named TD, and I am nothing if not a man of my word. This one’s for you, @FormallyTD.

    5DFF2C59-11D2-4A41-9337-2E87BBFCBC8E.jpeg

First, let it be known that this is no longer called the Round Table Buffet. It is officially the Buffet at Excalibur. That is a fact.

Any wimp can close a bar in Vegas. It takes a real man to open a buffet.

    FE8274B1-F8C6-46B7-82BE-933FDC8FA291.jpeg 8B4B0F3D-BC60-4874-B206-F6C0F598CC12.jpeg 0CD21760-E286-40CD-90EE-63C11680C655.jpeg 913E5E40-EF44-4DE1-AD4B-B85E9CF83A5C.jpeg 9ECE4681-4C66-400A-BE2E-7C1A8C72B31D.jpeg 485C54E9-A7F1-427E-80D8-48C240C1895B.jpeg

I set the o/u at 5.5 plates. Pay the under. You may be asking yourself: why would he do this to himself?

Possible answers: for science? To make some of you giggle? To check it off my list of Vegas buffets? Because today is my last day of vacation and I want to treat my body as disrespectfully as possible so that when I tell my wife tomorrow “eh, Vegas wasn’t that great” I can have a believably pained look on my face?

    94023E44-75A8-494B-9B10-162C007C06D4.jpeg F4D75B0C-5991-49FD-BFC1-33BA172867F1.jpeg A8C2C940-ACF8-4919-B8C2-C1F24A3564D8.jpeg

I won’t lie to you and say that it was good. But I at least tasted everything on those plates and almost all of it was edible. This is not Aria. But it could be worse.

    THERE ARE YOU HAPPY TD?!?!

Maybe not a complete update, but I think MGM will go through and clean it up. I think the Luxor, NYNY and Paris will be with us for a while. They are real life duplications as opposed to the ExCal. Even the ExCal will be around for a while. Replacing it would mean 3 year tear down/build up costs along with a 3 year loss of revenue. Don't see that happening right now.

    Speaking of Aria…

Today will be boring from a TR perspective, but not for me. I’ll be in the Sportsbook all day betting horses and drinking bloody maries. My dad in NY and my buddy in LA are both handicapping and betting the races along with me. It’s not as good as having then here, but it’s still pretty good.
