    My Trip Report

It’s my annual internal audit mandated week off to ensure me or my employees aren’t cooking the books, so it’s off to Vegas!

This trip is going to be a little different for my wife and I, as it was initially planned to be a group trip with several of my siblings so we could maximize my Cosmo benefits before my Gold year rolled over. As it often the case when trying to nail down a group of people, things fell apart when it came time to truly commit and the group trip turned into one sibling and her husband joining us for first two nights. As a result of all of us being too busy to spend a lot of time coordinating and having different budgets, this is the first Vegas trip I haven’t planned to the nth degree. It’s a little unsettling to be honest, I wish I could relax and trust that Vegas will take care of the rest like many of you do.

We arrive first thing tomorrow for 3 comp nights at Cosmo in a fountain view studio, followed by 2 comps nights at the Wynn thanks to the Wynn Slots App. I was able to use my companion nights at Cosmo, but couldn’t swing a fountain view for them. Depending on my mood at check-in I might splurge and upgrade them so they can get the full experience.

Bringing a $4K bankroll for the two of us. Trying something new on this trip and setting aside a budget for each type of gaming. $2500 for slots, $500 for VP, and $1K for tables. We’re hoping that separating the bankroll allows us to silo a heavy loss in one area (hello HL slots) and prevent getting discouraged from further gambling. We’ll see if it actually works that way. I also think the move from Cosmo will help force us off the slots and onto the tables for the end of the trip. Want to put all the slot play in at Cosmo to preserve the comps, and to hopefully earn an entry or two for their summer drawing on Saturday night.

We expect to hit the food and drink hard, and I love to take photos so there will be a lot of that in this TR. We like to treat ourselves in Vegas, but this is a spot where traveling with others might bite us. Likely won’t leave Cosmo while we are staying there, but we need to use my $100 diamond voucher at some point. Nothing was really jumping out at us on the list, but I’m sure we’ll figure it out.

Activity wise, the only item on our list is using my diamond show vouchers to hopefully grab tickets to the Miss Behave Game Show. I’ve wanted to see the show for a while, but it was dark on our last two visits. We snagged free tickets to Love through MyVEGAS, but can’t use them as it’s dark next week and we don’t want to ditch the others to see it tomorrow night.

That’s enough preamble for now. Flight leaves early tomorrow and we expect to hit the ground running once in town. Hopefully I’ll have lots of excitement to share throughout the weekend.

First unforced error of the trip, waiting til the last minute to pack and staying up til midnight to finish when you have to catch the first flight out the following morning. Always a good plan to arrive in Vegas already sleep deprived.

Hope you have an epic trip.

I can relate. I hate packing and put it off to the last minute. End up packing stupid. I can never catch up on sleep once there so now take noon flights. Still can’t sleep well because of the excitement and last minute things but a bit more sleep than the early flights.

Interesting gambling plan. I’m interested to see how it works out.

    Happy trails to you two.

So, I almost always catch the last late night flight out of the east coast, getting to vegas around midnight after a full day's work. Add all the last minute packing the night before and last minute work before a vacation, I end up starting almost every Vegas trip exhausted and sleep deprived lol.

Always take the 7 am direct flight to Vegas, so I can get a whole day and night in on the first day. By 9pm or so, I'm kicking myself for doing that. This time, I have 4 days before the trip on vacation and 4 days after to recuperate. Let's see if that helps with the last minute packing...…...

I have thought about doing this, taking the last flight out the night before I would normally go and then just crashing that first night after getting settled in and then waking up in Vegas as opposed to getting up super early and taking the first flight out. Has the bonus of not having to wait for a room to be ready as well as waking up in Vegas. Downside is I am almost positive the plans would end up with me staying up until 5 am that first night instead of going to bed once I was checked in and settled in the room.

My wife always does this too - when Vegsa is involved I am packed 3 days in advance - I am not normally this organised but Vegas brings out the best in me ;)

The way I look at it is that I only have a certain number of vacation days. If I fly out in the morning from the east coast, I have wasted more than half a vacation day traveling. Instead if I head to the airport straight after work, then get to Vegas and sleep, I have a full day next day for fun stuff. Unfortunately, my lack of vacation days means I can never take time off to recuperate. I fly back on the last possible day taking a 4 pm flight that gets to the east coast around 10 pm, sleep and head to work.

In my younger days, I would actually take the red eye back and head to work straight from the airport as well, but I no longer have the stamina for that lol

Well, there is a rare occasion when I do that, but even then, I consider it win since I got an extra vacation day. And since my room is comped for the extra night too, i literally lose nothing. Also, the flights on Friday evening are often times cheaper than the ones on Saturday morning.

That what happened when we tried it on one of our shorter trips. Took the last flight out arriving around 10 pm which was midnight at home and ended playing in the casino until the sun came up. Still had fun.

I could never crash, I'd go straight to the casino until I saw the sun, especially if it is a 3 day ish trip.

Come on bags. There’s money and drinks waiting for us just down the road. Hate checking luggage, but we head to the Bay Area for a few days after Vegas and two carryons weren’t going to cut it.

And we go back and forth on the night before or early morning flight argument. We generally strive for the night before, but last flight out of our airport requires dipping out of work a little early, which isn’t always possible. Plus you’ve got to have the comps to cover what is basically a “wasted” night.

I hope you have a wonderful trip. The problem with the direct, non-stop flights these days from Cleveland to Las Vegas is that most arrive in Las Vegas after 11 PM or midnight. So I am forced to arrive late and organized. I have my money separated and always plan to sleep the first night when I get to hotel after getting my rental car and stopping at Smith's or WalMart for a few cheap things.

I usually get to the room about 1 a.m. (4 a.m. Cleveland time) and can't resist the gravitational pool of the craps tables. More often than not, I end up back in the room in about an hour, staring in the mirror on the verge of tears and shouting "This is why you can't have good things!"

But next time, I will sleep when I arrive at the Golden Gate. I am sure this time. I am confident. ;)

Not feeling tired anymore. Full blown Vegas adrenaline going now. Dropped our stuff and heading down to grab some District Donuts before trying our luck.

A little fuel before hitting the floor. DEFCON folks had the line stretched all around the spot.
