    My Trip Report

I didn't plan this trip very far ahead. My husband & I had originally planned on going to the Vegas Rockabilly weekend. However the date this year was on I believe Easter weekend. Consequently the flight rates were over $600 pp. So he said I should just pick a date and go by myself. I was sitting stressed out from work one night and looked at Delta app, found a flight and boom. Of course this has led to continual 'digging' that I wouldn't let him go lol. (He could only go the one weekend in April with his work schedule).

Booked out of MSP non-stop leaving Saturday the 6th. Only a couple of people I work with even knew where I was going since there is one that is very negative and sarcastic about me going anywhere. I normally feel like enough comments are made in advance that actually put a damper on my vacation so I kept my mouth shut.

I was late in booking and then paid no attention to the week I was going until I went to book a room. All I could get at Paris was a hearing accessible or handicap room at Paris. I did have more options at PH, Ballys or Flamingo but really prefer the smaller footprint of Paris when it's late and I'm tired. I gave it a night to think about it and then all that was left was handicap end of hall. (I despise end of hall when traveling alone). Booked it and crossed fingers for a room change at Diamond check-in.

I try to plan my meals out. Being an insulin dependent diabetic, it's important, especially when traveling alone. Otherwise I had a tendency to end up sitting there with low blood sugar and at that point nothing sounds good. When my bff and her family are going too, I let it fly a bit more and she will come up with something if I am starting to get the 'eh I don't knows'. This trip I had a nice little chart which flew out the window a bit since I didn't feel well for several days of the trip. (Not contagious - just left over stress from work). So I actually ended up a few days only eating a couple meals and a small snack in the middle somewhere. I was very happy to have my new Dexcom G6 (Continual Glucose Monitor) as it transmits a reading every 5 minutes to my phone, which in turn beeps me if I start to drop below designated levels. I finally was able to sleep entire nights without having to set an alarm to wake myself up & check level.

Normally I try to find at least one NEW thing to do each trip. This trip was going to be the Flamingo Uncovered Tour. Around $54 after taxes. I booked this for Sunday afternoon (later to change). I did my Secret Garden booking for 2 (I had invited a few different friends to come with but none did) for Tuesday. I've been there numerous times and find it so relaxing. I did need to book this ahead as the reward expiration date was before my trip. I planned on doing a couple of shows with my Diamond tickets. That being said, with not feeling the greatest I decided to skip sitting 2 hours in a confined crowd and didn't use my tickets.

I headed early to Eau Claire for the park and fly shuttle to airport. Now run by Groome Transportation, which is evidently located cross-country. They have always been great but this trip their customer service was 5 star (more on that later). Flight at MSP set for 11:47 am. Arrived a few minutes early, however POTUS had just landed so we were stopped short of the gate and had to wait about 15 minutes. Had a POTUS experience a few years back with Obama, however that was on departure.

I had pre-booked the VIP Shared Ride Shuttle round trip, which in the past I have always highly recommended. This trip I was not as pleased with the service to the Strip. I checked in and they asked me to wait a few minutes. I waited while they grabbed groups of people coming out with no ressie, sending them over to pay and then putting them in the cars (including the smaller town cars). All of a sudden I am told 'sorry it will be a while longer, we are now out of cars'. Really? There were 7 limos & cars sitting there which you just randomly assigned to walk-ups and then now you are out. I kept thoughts to myself other than saying I could have easily shared the one town car that the single gal wanted to take to MGM. I I indicated that they could have given her a slight discount to share with me and saved an entire round trip. The dispatch fellow got this 'oh cr*p, that would have been a good idea' look on his face lol. Finally after over 45 minutes they said there was a car 5 minutes out. (I was at that point just read to turn around to the desk & request a refund and just head for a taxi). Regardless, my driver was very nice and had me to Paris within a few minutes. His tip did not suffer because of the treatment at the staging area. However, I will seriously reconsider using them in the future.

A bit blurry. I had to hand my phone to the fellow by the window to snap a pic.

When I walk in the door of Paris, I feel as if I am 'coming home'. I feel a lot of the weight and stress of work leave me and I just take several breaths and soak it all in.

I went to Diamond check-in (left side in the follow-up photo) and requested a room other than handicapped. She asked if I needed a K or 2Q and I indicated it didn't matter. She told me she could put me in a Burgundy Strip View room and I ended up in 2776. It was a beautiful view, with the only lacking is that it did not allow me to view the Eiffel Tower at night from the window due to the angle. I was still very happy as it was only 2 doors past the suites at the end of the hallway. I do not like going down a long hallway alone at night. I knew I had earplugs if the club noise was too loud. (I ended up not even using those because I was exhausted at night - once I went to sleep that was it). This room had a new shower only set-up, no tub. Also no longer a coffee maker (I never drank it in the room). Bed was very comfortable. Pillows good, but not my favorite.

I'm about an hour SE of Eau Claire. So headed out early to get to an early shuttle. Luckily I did as we ran into road construction on south bypass and came to a stand-still. But made it in plenty of time.

I decided to use my Diamond Dinner, just in case I don't make it back this year. I normally like to use it when my friends & I road trip to Council Bluffs as it covers 2 meals at the steakhouse at Harrahs there (great Nebraska steaks too). However I have a new grandbaby coming this fall, a wedding in Texas and I'm just not sure what the rest of the year will bring. I may regret using it later in the year, but that will be my bad. I will likely work heavily on surveys and try to bring up my RCs before the next trip and hope for an RC multiplier if we do go to Iowa.

After dropping bags in the room I immediately went to the Box Office. Unfortunately Mat Franco was booked for Diamond tix until the 20th. I decided to wait and figure out what I wanted to see. Bad move on my part as I mentioned I was not feeling that great - so I never booked any shows. I was slapping myself upside the head for not getting tix to a show later in the month and just giving them away. That's what happens when you are burnt out and overtired.

Started with a gambling tour of Paris. Unfortunately more of my favorite machines have disappeared. I did find 3 Sun & Moon machines yet in two different areas. Only one Flame of Olympus left that I could find (Flamingo did have newer machines with FoO) and within the 6 days I was there the screen deteriorated so badly it was almost not viewable by Thursday. I expect it will be shut down in a day or two. I really miss the 'old' machines. I loved Geisha. I like Wicked Winnings II (there was one of those near door & about 3 at Ballys).

Because of a booking error the last time I went to GR Steak at Paris I decided to have my host book the dinner for me. I was set for 7:15 pm. Dressed up a bit (only time I took out dressy clothes the entire trip) and headed for there. As @Royal Flusher would say, I was put at the lonely single diners seat outside the kitchen area. Which I forgot to take a picture of! I did not dare to wait for the Wellington (45 min minimum) as I needed to get some food in me. I stuck with a filet, brussel sprouts, mac and cheese and the stickey toffee pudding. The odd part was that the meal came out exactly to $100 (plus tax which was waived with the comp certificate). So it was just a cash tip for me. The filet was very good. A couple of the breads in the basket were to die for. However, as with my previous experience at GR I found it overpriced and slightly overrated. The service was excellent and the desert fabulous as always. If I manage to make Diamond this year again, I will revert to either BLT, Ruth's Chris or Center Cut/new Speakeasy.

I ended up hitting 500 TCs for the day, and went to bed early. The noise from the club was worrisome but once I passed out, I was done for the night.

Great use of your diamond dinner coupon. I think I'll follow you on that. I have no problem eating alone...and I would have spoken up if placed in the lonely hearts section in front of the kitchen. Paris is my hubby's favorite place to stay, too, but I make the reservations and I like the spectacular view of the Eiffel Tower from Bally's (see my avatar, click for full pic) so I always book us at Bally's. Tell us how the gambling goes the rest of the trip (and the meals).

I received a text from Alex indicating that my Flamingo Uncovered tour had to be cancelled for the next day due to illness of the tour guide. I asked if there were any later dates in the week (I knew there was nothing early week) and he indicated there was on Wednesday, so he kindly rebooked me for then.

Sunday I started the day with breakfast on the patio at Mon Ami. I was very disappointed to hear they no longer offer a daily crepe special. So I just had the ham, brie and apple (?) crepe with coffee.

Then I headed out to play Tarzan for a while since we currently don't have this one at home. That turned out to be a good move for the day but it easily took it all back over the course of the week. You just keep expecting it to hit again lol.

I believe I skipped lunch that day because still just not 100% me (again work stress doing a number on me). I did go to Cafe St Louis for supper. Foolish me decided to get the Pre Fixe menu - I should have just had a sandwich. I had french onion soup, bacon wrapped medallions, baked potato & another side. I requested the cheesecake to go and at the end of all of this I believe she forgot to give me my cheesecake and I paid and left without it. (You can really tell I was wiped out then!) Quite foolish on my part as I wanted the cheesecake in the fridge for sugar if I needed it - I did get a piece the next night at NFI which I did need one evening. There is nothing wrong Le Cafe, however I really was not up to that heavy of a meal two nights in a row. A simple sandwich would have been so much wiser and cheaper. I have a tendency to get lazy and hang out heavily at where I stay which is another reason I normally plan meals in advance besides the diabetes factor - just to get me somewhere out of the same casino.

I was upstairs again early and in my jammies when I had the pleasure of seeing the Game of Thrones fountain show. I don't think I actually taped it until a couple nights later but I did watch it a few different nights.

Great start to your trip. Waiting all that time for the shared limo sucks. When I take it from Terminal 3, there's always a bit of a delay but nothing like you experienced. Always consider it for my trips, but for my next trip I'm opting for the flexibility of uber/lyft. Looking forward to the rest of the report..

I did earn 1000 TCs on Sunday.

On Monday morning I headed to Margaritaville for breakfast. I noticed a new store in the Bally's promenade for 'It's Sugar'. Looks like it will take up a ton of empty spaces which will be beneficial. In Linq Promenade there is a new 'I Love Sugar' (?) being built. I had it in my head it was the same store in both places but when I look back at photos it appears they are different. I was at Margaritaville just a few minutes after opening at 8 am and was told 15 minutes for a seat (even though no one else was waiting). I really didn't expect that or I would have done call ahead seating. I expect it was to allow the servers to complete the orders etc. for the first ones that had arrived but I much rather would have waited at a table with a cup of coffee for the servers to catch up vs. sitting in the entry area when the restaurant only had about 10 seated tables. Key West Omelette 16.99 & Coffee 3.99 plus tax.

I then played quite a long time at Flamingo, hitting a nice hit finally after a downhill spiral. I played at least another hour or so in there and lost about $150 of the win. Walked into Harrahs and threw a $20 in and hit a minor $250 on second spin @ 1.25 on nickels bet. (Yes this all sounds great, but don't worry - I still came home down around $1500 lol - it really goes fast!!!). I took part in the Harrahs daily slot tourney & did 3 entries into that but all scores STUNK. On the way out of Harrahs my phone beeped and told me I better get something sweet in me so I grabbed a cream cheese danish at Starbucks (just wasn't able to handle juice right then) which was enough to get me back to a decent level.

I then bopped back to monorail and headed to NFI. I was going to walk from Paris but figured if I got back that far I would likely just walk in the door and plant myself again lol!!! I stopped and purchased the BOGO single day monorail ticket (still have the second one in my purse for another trip). I walked through the Underground to the lobby (shorter than the standard walkway) and over to NFI at NYNY.

I stopped at mLife desk and redeemed my NFI reward. I did make it in time for lunch so pricing was more reasonable for the exact same food as supper. I ordered Fish & Chips, a side of creamed corn & Drunken Whiskey Apple Cake. Note - this makes a correction to earlier post. I DID get the cheesecake at Le Cafe & take it to my room - I just had a brain cramp there!!! I immediately split the meal into two parts. I still couldn't eat the half I had set for myself and only a part of the desert. I took the 'clean' half and boxed it up and took it with me and they included silverware and napkins. I wasn't too keen on eating cold fish later from the fridge and I did find a homeless person before entering MGM at street level. I asked if he wanted it and he asked what was in it. I explained and said if he didn't want it I would find someone else. He indicated no, bless me he would take it and he started digging into the bag. I did look back when I entered and he was still digging in there so he hadn't tossed it or anything. I had hunted in NYNY for Life of Luxury progressive (my downfall) but the machine bank was no longer there. I stopped in MGM and dropped a 20 in Cherries Jubilee but no dumb beginners luck.

Monorail back to Ballys & stopped at Sun & Moon on the way in. No luck. Headed over to Wicked Winnings II & decided to blow the rest of that hundred in it. Ended up leaving it VERY nicely. And AGAIN, it all just vaporizes as the week went on lol. I can't believe I managed to wipe it all out. Per my email notification, this was another 1000 TC day.

I can see when I look at that pic from Harrahs it wasn't my second spin. I swore I only spun a couple of times lol! Maybe I hit a higher bet on the first one like a dummy!

Tuesday was my day scheduled for Secret Garden. I spent a bit of time losing money at Tarzan before wandering up to Secret Garden. I redeemed at the mLife desk for the breakfast buffet and $25 Konami freeplay. Breakfast was fine - nothing super exciting and nothing bad either. My server was good at pre-bussing my table. I had an omelette, some ham, and a few other assorted items. Coffee, water & juice. No complaints. I did not have any of the included wine or beer.

I was a few minutes early for SG opening. I did hand my extra ticket to a lady behind me who was waiting in line. I flustered her a bit and she said she felt awful taking things. I told her to not worry about it and to enjoy. I had really hoped that my bff & her family would come but they couldn't, another just had returned from a cruise and a fellow board member friend was also not coming. So I had the extra ticket and figured putting a smile on someone else's face was something nice to do for the day. I spent a few hours just wandering, watching the dolphin training, watching the feed/pet a dolphin and admiring the cats. No luck in seeing Seigfried. I thought about going back later but never made it. They were closing early for a special private event so my return hours were limited that day. I earned about $12 on the 25 Konami freeplay. I did not gamble more than a few dollars more as my favorite games have disappeared there also. It was a battle trying to find the Konami machines. They were NOT where the boothling indicated. I had read that you could use it on any non-progressive machine, however I figured I would play by the rules. I had to ask 3 people before someone directed me to where they were (basically right outside the buffet).

I returned to Harrahs to play in the daily slot tourney again. After my last round I was in 4th place. However the next session kicked butt and I was pushed out of that position. Didn't even return to see if I was a random draw winner. I sat for a while and played on a machine that cycled nicely and allowed me to build my TCs a bit. All of a sudden my bloodsugar decided to do a crash and burn on me. Server brought me a quick strawberry daquiri but it wasn't cutting it. Not sure what was causing the sudden drop as I hadn't done a ton of walking. My phone was still shrieking at me so I headed for the Fulton Street Food court. I couldn't handle any of the pizza or anything - because I was getting low I was already to the point where nothing sounded good and the smell was not hitting right. I had them make me a salad (yeah I know - no carbs there lol) and asked for a donut. I just needed stuff that did not 'smell' because I was getting nauseous. The check-out clerk said to run up to Ben & Jerry's and get a free single scoop (some special event day) and she'd hold my salad. So I did that to get something else sweet in me quickly. I had the single (small) scoop and then worked on the salad. It was actually pretty good but way too much for me and a bit heavy on the dressing. I'd been pretty lucky because this was my first nasty crash this trip.

I wandered through the Linq promenade, lost some money at Linq and Flamingo and wandered back to Paris. Because of the amount of time I spent diddling around at Secret Garden and the slot tourney as well as a long sit until my levels returned to nomal I only hit a 500 TC day and somehow just lost all day. The money was not even recycling well at all. Fairly early in the evening I grabbed a couple of waters from Diamond check-in and stopped and bought a Monte Cristo crepe at Le Creperie at Paris and headed to the room.

Really enjoying your trip report. My husband has the g6 which has been incredibly helpful. We have cotton candy handy for lows. He tolerates it even when nauseous and it brings up the blood sugar very quickly.
