Let's DIVE into Vegas - Live TR - Plaza 11/25-11/29

Hi All

So this is basically going to be, a really bad version of @diplomatic report from last week.

Long distance journey
Dive bars
Gambling

But without the great write up, meeting heroes like @jpw711 or doing much winning!

But your welcome to join me, and I will try to keep it as live as possible

 

This is no Joule Thief but its a Watt Eater for sure....

Didnt even make it to Heathrow......

 

Doing 85mph most of the way seriously affected the efficiency so we had to stop and charge...

The sat nav took us to a very special spot that some in the UK may be familiar with...

 

So while the car charged we enjoyed the first beverage of the trip...

After that is what straight to the airporto.

Most of my previous trips I have flown Virgin, making the most of racking up airmiles through work expenses. This trip however we are with British Airways.

Airport experience was not great.
Get to the BA lounge and the lady says, your best going to the lounge at B Gates.
15 mins later, the lady at B Gates says, your flight is departing from A Gates, have a quick drink then head back quickly.

You best walk, dont take the transit as you will have to go back through security...

WTF! I want a beer!

 

After following the corridor to nowhere, it was already time to board.

No dim sum on our plane, and I couldn't reach it if there was!

 

And that takes us to where we are now, about half way there.

Plane food was good... sticky toffee pudding photo a little late!

 

Hotel

We just couldn't pull the trigger on the El Cortez stay, we were flipping and flopping between that and the Plaza after our May stay. A little Circa temptation occasionally.

Finally we decided to go back to the Plaza for two reasons;

The pool, its not pool season, but an hour in the morning, or even just a drink at the outdoor bar holds a lot of value.

Hoping for a nice comp'd dinner, Oscar's was great last time, and so nice when you don't have to pay for it. To my knowledge there is no sensible way to run up a room bill at the El Cortez.

Half the reason we kept going to the Cortay was because they have the all tall and small at craps, but I do believe this is now at the Plaza.....

 

Finally before I take a nap, the spreadsheet for this trip.

Wow. Your proposed itinerary.... just WOW. Even if you stick to it 70%, you are doing an epic run of ginormous proportions.

How do you plan on visiting all of these places? Are you wealthy enough for a chauffeured limo? Uber/Lyft?

Haven't been to the Aztec Inn in over 15 years, but especially be careful there. That place might require the most caution.

As for The Orleans, it's safe and you'll be fine. It actually has something like 5 or 6 bars (all with video poker). Bonus points if you can find the one that his THIS carving:

 

I see you have arrived at the same conclusion I have: if you’re flying more than a couple hours to Vegas (even being in the same country it’s still a five hour flight for me), the best bang for your relaxation buck is often airline cabin upgrades, not hotel room upgrades.

I do have a wife.
Unfortunately she is not with me.
If she was I would listen to her.

This trip I have a Matt as per usual, I definitely won't be listening to him.

 

No chauffeur unfortunately, so it will be a lot of Ubers but in reality Ubering to all those bars for a beer is probably a lot less per hour than standing at the craps table!

I will keep an eye out for the carving.

 

We won't be spending much time in the room so fancy rooms aren't needed.

Can't not upgrade when it's a handful of airmiles and £225 each way with BA......

For an 11 hour flight!
