Better safe than sorry, so I always lock my iPad in the safe unless I forget. LOL On a couple of occasions, I left it on the desk and forgot to put it away, but it was still there when I returned. In Vegas, I never had any problems with things going missing, even when stuff is left out in plain sight. Although, it never hurts to be careful, since bad things tend to happen when you get careless and let your guard down.

We pretty much leave it out. Sometimes at least under a pillow or bedsheet, etc.

( we always have the DND sign up ourselves)

I'll bring one when I have to work for a few days before the actual vacation begins. When I'm not working, I don't even take it out of the backpack. I don't even want to know it's here.

I don't have a steadfast rule. I have put in the safe, have left it out , and have put in a bag///// never an issue. someone else posted about the safe which had a receptacle to charge it. I remember having that and that was great.

I've left it on the desk before and it was no issue. But I do try to make a habit of at least putting it out of sight. I usually put it in my luggage bag, underneath my clothing and then zipping the bag up. I find theft is a often crime of convenience and if it's out of sight, it has a better chance it won't get taken. Kind of the same logic of not having money in the change tray visible when you park your car.

Agree, I try to avoid bringing items of large value, but have locked items in the suitcase. Also, we try to avoid having housekeeping come in to clean. Bigger concern would be if someone walking by snuck in and grabbed an item while housekeeping was distracted.
A contractor had a brand new iPad and some cash stolen from their extended stay hotel room near our office last year. Wasn't locked up and I don't think they ever figured out who took it. Fortunately the hotel chain agreed to reimburse for the iPad and move them to a different location.

I always bring a laptop (don't have a smart phone) to help research sports bets, and never had an issue leaving it out.
safes are used to keep extra cash not budgeted for that day's play and .... our car/house keys.

We've tagged this base many times over the years (and that's fine, digging into the archives can be sucky). The takeaway always comes down to: Do what makes you comfortable. One person having a theft will for that person absolutely skew the results, even if it is far from predictive, overall.

I always leave my laptop on the desk charging - password protected, of course. However, I usually put my Ipad in the safe when I leave. It's just more portable and easier to conceal, so I think it would be easier to take.

I leave it on the desk as soon as I originally plug it in until I leave. Am fortunate that I do not have to pay for the connection and work remote on and off every day I am there. Don't get a lot accomplished, but I have bank stuff that needs to be done every weekday. Wish someone else would do it at the office, but oh well.

Since you say you are staying at Flamingo, you should be told no CET room cleaning during your stay so no housekeeping in your room this trip

Again I'm the oddball. I leave my ipad in the nightstand drawer. It's what I use the most while in/out all day. The safe contains my cash and jewelry, which I would only access in the morning and before bed (hopefully). I worked as a manager in the hotel business for 12 years. Although there are bad apples in every basket, I'd trust most housekeepers with my life.

I don't leave much out at all for 2 reasons - 1. I'm kind of a neat freak and like to come back to neat room. 2. Housekeepers are honest but can spray cleaning crap everywhere, not to be malicious, just in a hurry. I don't want anything spilled on my electronics, make up and especially my toothbrush. Accidents happen. I have one of those antibacterial plastic covers I keep on my toothbrush, then I put it and all my toiletries in the zippered case I bring and makeup back in it's bag. I will leave any sealed food out, but open ones I pop in a drawer. The funny thing about all these honest housekeepers is many would come back from their shifts smelling mighty fancy. They don't consider it stealing to spritz a little perfume. Of course it's discouraged.

As others mentioned, the discussion may be moot during these times. Most places will only do housekeeping upon request and even then I'm not sure how extensive it will be.

The way I look at it a safe is safer. My iPad, cash and meds go in the safe if only to give me a little more piece of mind. Of the three the theft of my meds would ruin my vacation more than my iPad or even cash.

My larger laptop which sometimes doesn't fit in hotel safes never travels with me to the motherland. My smaller Acer will fit in pretty much any safe and that is what I travel with to Vegas. Most if not all trips it comes down, goes into the safe along with our passports and envelope BR and rarely comes out. Since it is for work and well considering my usual state when I get to the room I wouldn't be of much use to work anyway.... On one trip staying at PH the safe didn't work properly and we were only there one night so it went inside our luggage locked and buried in clothes. No housekeeping on an overnight stay so I never thought much about it.

I always put stuff in the safe. Figure no reason to stress. I do trust housekeeping but a number of years ago a family member had a special necklace taken security was call. No luck but the next day the person who took it wore it to work. As for charging it. I charge the stuff overnight when I go to sleep so I do not worry about the charging.

I leave it out, but I take an older one. If I take it at all, I'm on vacation after all :)

In the safe for sure. You can't fully trust anybody but yourself and I'm not going to make it easier for dishonest people to get one over on me. Whether that's a member of housekeeping or just some low life walking around checking door handles. Anything of value to me goes in the safe.
