We just got back a couple of weeks ago, and realized we only hit a few casinos. We would usually hit most (many) of them on the strip. Not necessarily spending lots of money but yet we used to spend money just by happenstance.

Also because of this the restaurants and shops near by these casinos went over looked. I just wonder if we were the norm, or the parking fees aren't stopping most of the visitors.

So you have a car and usually drive to each casino you visit on the strip and this time you didn't do that? Just trying to figure out your circumstances. I always have a car too and don't stay on the strip. But when I go to the strip I will park wherever I want to go first and then just walk to wherever else I want to go on the strip. I don't drive to each place. So while the parking fees are annoying it won't change what I do. And when I stay at the Rio (or Palms) I'll just hop on the convenient Rio shuttle (they have 2 separate shuttles, very nice) and not bother taking my car. And then walk from either Harrah's or Bally's depending on which shuttle I took.

even when there was free parking everywhere, the traffic made it unbearable to really casino hop using a car
the only time i seriously casino hopped using my car was back in 2003, between christmas and new year's
that was the perfect time with no traffic
and i visited at least 10 different casinos while driving up and down the strip

now i tend to just hit up caesars palace - Bellagio - cosmopolitan
    and
    venetian/Palazzo - wynn/encore
and try not to drive too much

    Did you spend less money?

if you did not then they accomplished their goal.

We probably spent as much we just diverted it from the casinos to offstrip locations. Uber wouldn't work we had 5 in our group.

I can not imagine "casino hopping" with a car. That must be a real pain. Maybe we just prefer walking up and down the strip, casino to casino vs back and forth to parking garage. (or waiting for valet).

Not saying you can not do it or there is anything wrong with it.

Rio had 3 shuttles in October 2016. To Harrah's, Bally's, and the back of the Linq.

That's an add in then. Must have enough traffic to warrant it

I agree with the OP. I always have a car when in LAS and I park several times while on the Strip. I park and visit a few of the casinos in my immediate area and then I move the car to another location and visit another few casinos and repeat yet again. I can easily see me skipping the MGM casinos (except Bellagio) and Cosmo due to not wanting to pay the parking. For CZRs brand I have a diamond card so it's not a problem.
In a 2 week trip, I only spend about 2-3 days on the Strip. Lousy gaming and being as gaming is my #1 reason for going to LAS I want a good game. Red Rock, 4Qs, MSS and Gold Coast get the majority of my gambling dollar.

If parking fees are a deterrent, you're hopping to the wrong casinos. Use the car to get offstrip to visit casinos where parking is completely free. When I was a strip critter, I was comfy walking all over and didn't need a car. We still managed to hit tons of casinos. We started getting a car to get to places too expensive to cab too or to time consuming to bus to.

For my next trip in April I'm not renting a car for the first time. The paid parking was the last straw. The car rentals aren't as cheap as they used to be, going through Costco its about $300 for a week long rental. A few years ago it would cost half that price. So when you add in gas and parking, ride share is not only cheaper but probably more convenient. No remembering where you parked and sitting in traffic. I've read even at off strip casinos it's not hard to find an uber. Now if you're someone who's staying off strip then I would think a car is a must.

I just came back from Vegas where I rented a car. At least for this trip, I did not park at any MGM properties, but that was my personal decision. The Caesars properties I stopped at were charging for valet, but not for garage parking. Hard Rock is still free for both valet & garage. Golden Nugget charges for garage parking, but there are several options for validations that cover the parking charge. In my case, it was for eating at one of their restaurants.

One possible cost saving option is to parking in the garage at Bally/Paris and take the LV Monorail. A one day pass is $12 (per person). That gives you access to many of the strip properties on that side. Might be worth trying.

It picks up at the same spot at Rio as the other shuttles and drops you off right behind the High Roller.

I have been avoiding the strip for several years now. I cant stand all of that over-priced gouging. the parking fees, well that is just one more reason not to go. if I were to casino hop on the strip, I would park at one place and walk, and only pay one parking fee.

Why not just uber it? Parking fee and uber about the same.

Been to Vegas about 15 times now and have never rented a car and never had an urge. Too many issues including traffic and drinking. I just walk, cab or Uber where I want to go so much more convenient that a car. This way I avoid parking fees and can indulge as I please. So parking fees will have no effect on me or my crew that frequent Vegas.

Just curious: How much do you spend on cabs/uber per day during a Vegas trip?
