My 80 year old aunt loves keno. I'm more of a blackjack player, or even a slot player, anything with better odds. But when I hang with my aunt, a keno machine is the game. I do have to say there is something soothing in the sound it makes and overall it is not a bad way to accumulate some beers if you're sitting at the bar.

My aunt has a four card keno system she came up with . You play dimes and it's 40 cents a spin. It hits enough where you can play a long time. Or at least a long time at keno. Not sure if people are interested but if so I can post the "system" she came up with. Let me know.

My favorite keno/aunt story: We met downtown for lunch. We ate at the Nugget and during lunch she played her usual 5 numbers with the keno runner. We then played machines in the casino. She tells me go check my ticket. I say sure. While I am gone the woman next to her says "is that your boyfriend?" (I'm 50). She say oh no that is my nephew. And the woman says "Oh I thought you were a cougar." I check her ticket. She hit 5 out of 5 for $800. I come back, we laugh about the cougar comment and then I hand her the $800. GN has bad keno payouts, that should have been over a grand I think.

I think systems are dubious but woudlnt mind hearing it.

I play video keno to slow down and live to slow down even more.

I miss keno runners at cafes!

A five spot at keno usually pays around $800

I am no expert, but I think Cleopatra 4 card keno on some machines-- if the last number drawn is one of yours, you get some free games, and the wins are doubled. or something like that. I played it at ELCO and my money lasted for a long time.

but most people would say the best strategy for keno is DON'T PLAY.
of course if your 80 year old aunt (cougar lol) loves it--have at it.

Here is my aunt's strategy. Play these nine numbers per card, 10 cents (or whatever you want) a card. I've listed the overall card but if anyone needs each card shown on its own let me know. You hit nine you win 10,000 dimes. You hit enough smaller hits to keep you going for a while. I know keno overall is a bad game but sometimes mindless fun is...fun. all.JPG

You are right. Now that I remember it. GN paid only $720 for five out of five. That was the bad payout

I have a can't lose system for Live Keno. I play an 8 spot for $1.00 per game. It takes about 10 minutes per game. So I can lose up to $6.00 per hour. I can get about 3 free drinks per hour tipping $1 per drink. Always ask for a double martini. My costs per hour are $9.00. My return per hour is 3 double martinis valued at at least $5.00 each. So I have a guaranteed hourly profit of $6.00 in AEV (Alcohol Expected Value) YMMV

Live keno is one of the worst games HE wise. I still play it when I see it cause what the hell... $20 isn't that bad.

Video keno is not as bad as live HE wise and some paytables are better than slots

Thanks so much ~ very interesting! I love playing video Keno every once in a while ~ I can usually kill a lot of time for a little bit of $$. I normally play 5 numbers at a time ~ the best payout I've found for that is 838 credits (not too bad for a quarter!) I'll give your aunt's strategy a try next trip ~ thanks!

My favorite Keno fact is that Redd Foxx was a Keno high roller. A host at Aladdin put a sign at his seat that read “Redd Foxx’s Office.” My favorite four card Keno strategy is pick a number towards the center, then play five numbers per card down, across, and diagonals from the center number.

So if your aunts strategy is playing 9 spots, how did she win the 5 spot?

I do 4-card, 6 spots each, with varying levels of overlap between the 6 chosen numbers. There's usually 3-4 shared numbers between 2 or more cards.

On a 3/4/75/1660 (for 3-hit through 6-hit) paytable I play in Reno, this comes out to 94.98% payout, which is better than most slot machines in Nevada.

The 6/6 odds are about 1 in 7,700, so it's not disgustingly rare or anything -- I can usually hit 1 or 2 on most 3-4 day trips. Good smooth game to soak up drinks at a bartop.

Love me some keno. Mainly so i don't need to think, i can't watch the games i bet on and the drinks flow. I typically play 4 card with varying 4 spots and throw a 5 and 6 in as well. The 4 spots hit often enough to keep me playing. Caveman Keno gets its share as well.

That's a good find especially for a bartop. Basically "full pay". Most Vegas Strip keno units are closer to the 88% return range. :(

Updating my own response. Just got back from a trip where I hit five (!) total 6 spots in one weekend. Too bad 4 of them were on the low payout Cleo & Caveman Keno, at least I hammered one of them on the basic OG Keno that paid $800 on a $.50 bet while watching football.

I may need to post a separate thread....but....

What is the standard for comp drinks playing bartop keno? I know the standard for VP is sometimes $1, sometimes $.25 max credits. Some have gone to drink tickets/light system of course. But what is the standard for earning comps at the bar playing keno?

    Love,
    Earl
