a member of my group is interested in visiting a hot spring. i am doing some Googling for suggestions, and figured somebody here would have experience with such an activity. i know the springs exist, but i've never given a second thought to visiting one.

i found this, for starters, but it doesn't tell me where i should go, only that i shouldn't submerge my head. now i'm starting to rethink this hot spring thing.

have i found an activity nobody has partaken in? i doubt it. but upon further consideration i realized i don't recall reading about hot springs in many trip reports.

i guess my search tactic was flawed, because i wasn't finding anything when i tried a search, although i didn't spend 20 minutes delving into the results.

don't know why i missed the thread you posted, but thanks for fishing that out.

Are you wanting something Vegas-specific? I can't help you there, but there is a pretty popular hot spring location (probably more than one) just inside Yellowstone Park near Gardiner, MT.

Finally had a little time to do some googling for you. It looks like at least one of the places on that list, Ash Springs, has been closed for some time.

Most of the others I've heard of require a long desert hike/scramble, which is enough to keep me away. Like this one: http://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/nevada/gold-strike-hot-spring

I know I drove by one campground/hot springs place near Beatty, NV. I didn't stop and it looked pretty "rustic". This website is not great, but I think this was it.

I found this one too: https://www.nps.gov/lake/learn/nature/rogerspring.htm Although, the description called it more "warm than hot".

I don't know what to tell you. Maybe you should have lots of drinks and get in the hotel hot tub and pretend. :haha:

Very much like a hot shooter on a Crap table, don't jump in until a pause in the action.

Assuming there's other participants already in the spring, of course.

Last trip to LV I took most of a day to go to Tacopa Hot Springs and China Date Farm; two attractions nearby in California. You drive out to Pahrump and it's less than an hour from there. Like most hot springs, they have 'captured' the spring on private land and made pools for you to dip into. Kind of like a very rustic spa...very rustic. All in all, it was a nice trip out of LV for a day. I might try the ones listed in your link. NEVER put your head under the water at a hot spring...small chance of nasty microbes but why take the chance?

thanks everyone for the suggestions. while we opted out of the hot spring visit on this trip, it's something i hope to do during a future trip, and i will certainly look back upon this thread.
