    My Trip Report

My wife and I recently returned to Vegas on July 5th. We stayed at Harrah's for three nights. While we were there we met up with some people that I worked with in Erie, PA. The weather was very hot, but it didn't stop us from having a good time.

    Wednesday, July 5
We flew out of Pittsburgh and made a connection in Chicago. We had a snack from a Dunkin Donut kiosk in the airport. The trip went well. I am 6'4" therefore I am rather cramped on an airplane. I was glad when we landed in Vegas. Getting the luggage seemed longer than usual. The taxi ride was noneventful.

Checking into the room was very tedious. They have express check-in through a kiosk. The process seemed top work well for others, but when I tried it the screen said my room wasn't ready. I am at the gold level for total rewards, and the wait for a person to help me was long!!!

My room was on the 14th floor. The air worked well. It was quiet when I tried to sleep.

    Drink #1
I needed a drink after the mess at check-in. I have a strategy for the first drink. My wife and I went to Casino Royale, I ordered 2 Michelob Lights for me and a rum & diet coke for my wife. The cost was $5 + a $2 tip. This is the real start of the joy of Vegas.

We had great drink service at most places during our trip. Harrah's service was great. the service at Bally's was also speedy.

We met our friends at the food court at Harrah's. We ate at the Noodle Bar. A bowl of shrimp and fried rice cost $12.50.
I have used the envelope system for our trips. I lost nothing on Wednesday. No big hits but no real dry spells on the slots. I like the Lightning slots ,but they disappointed me during the trip.
We went to the room about 11PM.

    Thursday, July 6

I woke up and played slots for an hour. I took a coffee up to the room for my wife.

    Gold Coast
We took a taxi to the Gold Coast in order to meet our friends. Everyone got the breakfast buffet. The food was fine and the price was fine. They have made to order omelets. The slots were unkind to me at the Gold Coast. All of us walked to the Rio. The slots were kinder at the Rio.

We took the shuttle back to Harrah's. My wife went to the pool by herself. I rested in the room because of several incidents of basal skin cancer.

Later in the afternoon, we started a trek to the Excalibur to see The Australian Bee Gees We walked to Bellagio's and took the tram to Monte Carlo. We walked the rest of the way. Unfortunately, the escalator at New York, New York was not working. The temperature was quite high; walking up those steps was rather difficult. The show was excellent.

On the way back, we stopped for a fountain show at Bellagio's.

We stopped at Bally's and I hit for $120 on Whales of cash. Other than that, Thursday was a bust financially.

    Friday, July 7

I hit for over $100 on nickel video poker in the morning. We met our friends for lunch at Margaretiville. The portions were large and the food was fine. The drink service was so good that I was getting bloated, so I switched to Gin & Tonic.
We went to Planet Hollywood and saw Hitzville. What a great show.

I lost about $100 on Friday, but I had a great time.

    Saturday
I called for a 545 AM wake-up call. We took a taxi to the airport. Our direct flight to Pittsburgh left at 8.05 on Saturday. There was a whiny kid on the flight. The mother and father both tried to keep her calm, but she was whiny for about an hour.

    Some observations

There were fewer bums and street musicians than last year. It might have been because of the heat.

I really like the location of Harrah's, but the check in really annoyed me.

Cromwell's is a very nice small casino.

    Thanks for the TR!
A couple of Micheys sounds like a great idea after your check-in difficulties!

I've yet to really spend much time in Cromwell. Maybe next trip! :D

I missed you by 1 day! I left on the 4th after 5 nights. I'm in full agreement, the checkin process at Harrah's is the worst, even for Platinum. My issue is they never have the type of room I reserve. then there's a big deal about asking the host, and this isn't even one of the renovated rooms! I stay in hotels every week on business and never, ever do I see such nonsense. It's the buzzkill at the beginning of my vacation that I hate the most.

I agree, I love the location and the fact I can leave my room and arrive at my favorite machines in 5 minutes. I also enjoy the nickel multihand vp machines there and several are usually open.

Congrats on a fun vacation and thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the report. I was in Vegas the same time as you, but I stayed in Paris. No issues at check-in there. I am Platinum, and there was nobody in line at Platinum check-in. I did stay in Harrah's a couple of trips back, and it really is a madhouse in there. And their Fulton food court is really pricey. But man was it hot in Vegas. 115 degrees at one point!!
