Just got back from three nights in the Nugget and two in the Palms. July temps were 114 in the day and high 80's at night, no humidity but still very hot. Great room in the gold tower, exit the elevator and right into the casino, no problem at all with the noise from the Fremont Street experience. Played mostly video poker, machines were very, very tight. Played mostly at the main bar, and all of the bartenders were great all times of the day. The nugget is experimenting with a new light system at one of their bars that will generate a green light when you are eligible for a free drink. Bartender explained the crazy system, i told him i thought it was ridiculous and i wanted to express my displeasure to a supervisor, which i did. btw, the green light system bar had fewer gamblers then did the other bars that did not have the system. did happy hours at two restaurants in the nugget, both excellent, grotto(andy excellent bartender) great meatballs and pizza and reduced price drinks monday thru friday 2-6 and the chart house more seafood choices but also great drinks and appetizers as well. Bartenders at chart house were outstanding as well. Went to Palms for last two nights, in ivory tower, another nice room but a bit of a walk to sports book etc. Palms undergoing some major renovation and reduced number of gambling options. Once again, video poker machines were very tight, just like they were at the Orleans as well. Best meal of the trip was the price fix cut of the week menu for $ 58 including unlimited wine pairings at Charlie Palmer Steakhouse in the Four Seasons Hotel. Had two great non stop flights on Jet Blue out of JFK and a car rental from Dollar who was quick, easy and without incident. All in all a great trip.
