    My Trip Report

We have decided on a last minute Cherokee visit, My wife and I will drive down from VA and my sons will fly in from AZ. My host was able to get us two comped Premium rooms in the Creekside tower. We have a Sat reservation at Brio and are trying to get a reservation tomorrow night at Ruths Chris. Both pools are open as well as the Laurel Lounge. I was there three weeks ago and the temp non-smoking was really nice. I will try to post trip report updates once we are there. We hope to be on site by about 7pm tomorrow. I am not concerned about the recent mini Covid spike as those employees were identified and are all now in isolation.

Cherokee is really a nice resort location. It is a beautiful property.

Winning big is an objective, but staying close to the odds on VP would also be ok! Really just having a good time with a family get away would also be a win. Cherokee must really be trying hard to get people to come back as my host has been unusually accommodating. I do enjoy the property. We have another trip planned in late October to catch the fall foliage color at its best.

I need to check it out. I'm about a 5 hour drive away.

I used to drive there a fair bit when I lived in Charlotte, hell of a beautiful drive and I always thought it was neat seeing Cherokee language on the street signs once you hit the reservation.

    Have fun!

If you want a real nice drive, go from Cherokee to the sister property in Murphy NC. Its about an hour drive but very scenic and curvy. Spend a couple hours gambling and then head back. For an offsite decent dinner check out Murphy Chophouse

Sons are on their way. They managed to snag the last two seats in First Class. Told them that this might be a sign of the start of a lucky weekend for them

We will pick them up at AVL on our way past in about 6 hours from now. So far the only reservation time we could get at Ruths Chris was 10pm, which is too late for me to eat a big dinner. I’ll try to call them on our drive down to see if something earlier has become available.

Dinner tomorrow night at Brio. We like to sit on the Patio since it affords a nice view of the roof garden and the skyline.

Ruth Chris told me the same thing. However, if a table is available in the bar you can get settled immediately without reservations. Same menu, same experiencece.

We have arrived. Check in was pretty quick. 19th floor rooms with a nice view of the sunset. We brought our own happy hour snacks.

Good luck and looking forward to rest of trip report. I am due there in about 10 days and hope to use the pool and one morning drive up to Clingman's Dome. Very odd for me that since I am a lowroller, no host ever, I have been given about 8 comp nights at Cherokee. Sweet!

Good luck to you - I hope it's a fantastic, profitable trip. As the only driving distance casino for me, I've typically gone 4 - 6 times a year...but not so far this year. Considered going last weekend, until the news hit of five dealers testing positive...spooked me again. Interested in how busy they are on the weekend, and whether precautions and patron safety is holding up.

Went out for a brisk walk along the creek this morning as the fitness center is still not open. Had a lot of fun last night. It was busy but not like a typical weekend night. It was easy to find a machine that I wanted to play. Most everyone were wearing masks. Everyone gets temp checking when first arriving, then you wear a wrist band. We scrapped Ruths Chris last night. 10pm was too late for me to have a big dinner. No worthwhile wins to report yet.

What a beautiful place. I live in Cali so don't get to NC much. I used to work for a corporate office in Charlotte but that was a long time ago. And Meomi Pinot Noir is my favorite.

Is the Laurel Lounge socially distanced? I'm still miffed Harrah's in Tahoe hasn't opened the lounge in one of their big conference rooms or even in a big stage area on the casino floor that they could cordone off and social distance the tables. But bars are shut down in Nevada right now so it doesn't matter I guess.

The lounge was not crowded and they have the tables spaced apart. We sat in the 7* side last night and were the only ones in that room.

Went to the pool, but got chased away by a thunderstorm near by. It was pretty easy to stay spaced apart in the pool, not as easy when sitting around. guests were not required to wear masks while outside at the pool. Staff wore them.

It was much busier in the casino last night including the table games area. One of my sons played blackjack for a few hours. He was watching a table with two players ready to leave so he only waited about ten minutes. That was around 10pm. $25 min.

It is so much nicer there with it being all non-smoking. As busy as they were that does not seem to be keeping people away, and I think that it is encouraging more non-smokers to come and stay longer.

We had a great dinner at Brio Sat night early. Sat on the inside patio area.I love their lobster bisque soup. I had salmon Fresca and it was excellent. We hung out at the Laurel Lounge a fair amount of time. Every time we were there we were the only four people sitting in the 7* room, but the main bar area was also pretty open and spaced out. They had a selection of packaged snacks available upon request at the bar or through your server.

Mask wearing was at 95%+ with very few people not trying to follow the guidelines. Staff were reminding people to keep their masks up. I would take mine down to sip my drink, and never had an issue with that. The limited entry points and one way up escalators and limited elevator hours makes for some extra walking to get were you want to go. I did see them spraying disinfectant on empty machines and atm’s fairly regularly. Since we were on the 19th floor we never had an issue going down. Lower floor guests had to wait longer as there would already be 4 people in the elevator when it got to their floor on the way down. Out of a dozen up and down trips I only waited twice for a few minutes. Valet is open, but we chose to self park as I did not know what they were spraying the cars with to disinfect surfaces. Getting my own car actually allowed us to avoid the Sunday morning valet crush. I just drove it down and picked everyone and the luggage up at the door.

Our next trip to Cherokee is planned for late October when it should be peak fall colors.
