What is the rule about holding just a 10 with a face card of the same suit? Wizard basic strategy says all of the time (I think), but when I play the practice game, it sometimes indicates I have made an error when I do so. Obviously, the rule is more complex with advanced strategy. Thanks for clearing this up for me.

Wizard has you hold unsuited qj or kqj over suited jt, and also unsuited kq over suited qt, and any two unsuited high cards or a lone jack over suited kt.

Never has you hold the ten with just a suited ace.

Sorry, I didn't mean to include the Ace, and I also understand your above examples. However, I'm referencing a hand with only one non-Ace face card (K or Q or J), along with one 10 of the same suite. Sometimes you hold the 10, and other times you discard it depending on the other non face cards in the hand. What is the rule there? Sorry if I'm not asking the question correctly.

The rule is i think you have 2 penalty cards. If there is another suit and another straight card you hold the high card. like Ks10s9c3s6h you only hold the King

I would not worry about those close calls.
The EV difference between one way or the other is tiny to none.

In 9/6 JOB, the most important penalty card situations that involve a suited Ten are as follows:

    1. JT suited vs. KJ unsuited; and

    2. QT suited vs. AQ unsuited.

In each case, it is better to hold the suited cards unless there is a third card in the same suit as the JT or QT.
