Nicklaus grandson, Nick O'Leary 27, has had a heart attack. He has played in the NFL for five years. Didn't realize it's been that long. I remember when he was drafted. He had a 100% blockage in one of his ateries. It was cleared and two stents put in. He should be able to return to football next year.

Wow, really young for that to have happened. Diet related?

Wow, that clogged up at age 27! Sounds like he has age and physical condition on his side in recovering.

It is very young. However, I remember, years ago, that the Detroit Lions had a wide receiver, that was jogging back to the huddle in a play he wasn't even really involved in. He had a massive heart attack and died, despite medical attention being there literally in seconds. He was also in his twenties. You just never know..

Could be genetic, diet or both. I'm sure a lot of athletes figure they can burn off whatever they take in. This amounts to more than calories though. You don't just burn off plaque.

Perhaps a history of using anabolic steroids?

You're thinking of Len Bias -- cocaine-induced cardiac arrest. Gathers died on the court in a WCC tourney game. He had a bad ticker and his doctors agreed to keep lowering his meds.
