. . . it's that danged prep solution you have to drink beforehand. Ugggggh, that's some nasty stuff!!!!

Having a colonoscopy tomorrow and I started that bowel prep drink. Add 6 ounces of this nasty stuff to 10 ounces of water and (gag)drink(gag). And have to repeat tomorrow at 4:00a. Nice.

I have heard many people say how nasty this stuff is - they were NOT kidding!!

You can do what someone I know did...forget you have to fast and enjoy a cheeseburger the night before instead. They still had it done without any issues

I had to mix it with about 3 gallons of Gatorade. Still shitty.

Back when I worked in the hospital, we used to call it (Golitely, Halflitely) Super Colon Blow from the SNL skit.

See if your physician will allow you to substitute Citronesia next time. Not nearly as nasty.

Had one 5 years ago @ 60 for the first time. Everything free & clear. But, drinking that shite was gawd awful.

Believe, there are new improved versions in smaller quantities, but I'm not taking any chances.

Waiting for another 5 years! :rolleyes2:

I’ve had 5 of them. I have to go every 3 year’s because I’m an at risk patient. That stuff is awful, but it’s getting better.

I try to look forward to the drugs, because they are dynamite, even if you only remember about 5 seconds of it.

Same here, every 3 years. Still gag taking the 'improved' stuff.
I understand why they insist someone accompany me to drive me home, but will never understand why, after the procedure, the Surgeon comes back to the farting room to explain to me how well it went and how clean the colon was (really? did I get a prize?). then he has me sign the results. Cause 5 minutes later I'm asking my husband 'has the Dr been back yet?), he answers, yes, been and gone, then 5 minutes later, I ask the same question - those ARE some darn good meds but no telling what kinds of questions the husband is asking me in my stupor o_O :wink2:

I have one scheduled on Friday 10/27. Since I just turned 55, my Doctor recommended it and I knew it was probably going to be awful. Thanks for the "heads up".

I've never done one yet but since I just turned 60 my dr. wants me to go for one. My only problem is getting back home, I don't have many friends or family that can take off to pick me up after the thing. I can't use taxi or uber because the hospital requires someone to come in to sign the patient out and they don't want to do that. I may consider not being put to sleep (just a local) so I can drive home. Has anyone stayed awake during their procedure? Were they coherent and able to drive home after the procedure?

I can probably ask someone to pick me up but I don't want to bother them if possible.

Figure out a way! :poke: The way my 3 went you are somewhere between out and yet still kinda aware of things. You hear voices and such and I remember one time he made me flinch, but no pain. Here is irony. The doctor who did my 3 tests died last year of colon cancer. Young guy, only in his 50s. Younger then the recommended age to get one.

I stayed awake but was given a small dose of fentanyl. I was very coherent. Not sure if they would have let me drive, my wife was with me.

It was quite interesting. We talked and I asked questions (I could see the monitor of the scope.) The anesthetist couldn't believe I wanted to stay awake. The doctor found it amusing. Sometimes the scope would have a hard time making a turn so a nurse or the anesthetist would reach over and push on my stomach.

Both Dh and I have avoided that test by sounding really, really hesitant about having it so the doc has given us the take home paint brush test. So far, so goodt

About 12 years ago, two of my HS classmates were scoped two weeks apart and were both diagnosed with Colon Cancer at age 47. One survived, the other friend didn't and left behind a wife and two grade school kids.

If there is any time to call in a favor, this is it. Please don't use this as an excuse.

I'm scheduled for #3 next month. Other than drinking that prep solution, it's a walk in the park.
