Yeah, a poker room is a fair amount of floor space to plan out for fairly modest revenue. Couple that with Stevens wanting a showy sports book, and downtown parcels not exactly being sprawling and its really tough to see them doing it.

Right, but anyone worth their salt will be able to pick up on this after a few low stakes hands.

Overall, with respect to this thread, 1/3 will not draw any serious regulars. Maybe someone who's trying to grind their way up, but frankly, any serious player needs 2/5 or 5/10 to make a living off of poker. In general, the poker economy is shrinking imo. Yeah, more recreational players, but rake increases aren't helping.

    Bingo!

I think it’s this and the fact that there are casinos with poker rooms all over the country. The days of only having Nevada and NJ with casinos to play legal poker are long gone.

Personally if online poker were legal nationwide I’d probably play more than I should. I just never make the time or effort to go locally to play.

As an old man, recreational player, I much prefer a brick & mortar game if only for the BS. :)

I stopped playing decades ago, when Texas Hold-em killed off every low-limit 7-stud table in Vegas... and then they made every room "smoke-free".

Are any of the smaller daily tournaments worth the time? I'm not a big poker player but do enjoy it from time to time and would prefer a smaller tourney to limit loss and prevent losing hours in the poker room. I was looking at a few at Bally's / PH maybe CP or Bellagio - seem to have a few between the properties that start between 10 am and 2-3pm with buyin between 60 and 200$. Are any of those worth checking out to kill a couple hours?

Also - if you're playing a tourney like that - do you still get comped drinks?

    Thanks!

Maybe CP based off your lists. Drinks are complimentary, but be sure to tip them.

If you're looking for entertainment, they're all okay. Like JaviSRK, I might give the nod to CP, but I've had fun at PH and in years past, for some strange reason, chopped the Bally's tournament a few times and I can only remember not cashing there once. But IMHO, it's mostly push-and-pray.

there aren't ANY sharks in 2/4 limit poker
they're all there grinding promos playing tight and passive
in the end they bleed chips to the rake. most of them think they're good at poker but they aren't.
of course at night you'll get drunks coming through dumping money

5/10 nl limit games were 6 dollars a half in vegas 10 years ago and now the rake in those games is 7/half
The issue in Vegas isn't the rake
Rake is way more expensive in california for example and yet the games are way better in california
Vegas 5/10 nl games are absolutely awful
It's a bunch of nits, many of them on tablets with headphones on who have destroyed their own games with their nitty play and anti social behaviot

There are NOT more rec players at games above 1/2 nl than there were a few years ago, there are a lot less and for good reason

I'm a fish and am okay with it. I enjoy the game and like to play but know my limits. Excal, MGM and Luxor tourneys are good for me.

Same as that nowadays, but I like to have a punt in a few WSOP tourneys and Venetian comps every summer :)

At Xmas I'll probably just play where I'm staying, so it'll be Luxor or Mandalay Bay.

This is one of the reasons why I stopped playing poker in Atlantic City years ago. The Tropicana was my regular stop and they would have 3 or 4 7-card stud games going. Tables were always full and you had to wait for a seat to open. Then slowly one by one they started to close the tables until it was no more. Bring back 7-card stud and I will gladly buy into the game, otherwise it's a no go with Texas Hold'em.

Something that caught my attention in an article recently linked from this forum.
    https://www.hotelnewsresource.com/article106875.html

Quote from the Casino section in the article:
"The 60,000 square-foot casino floor received a remodeled design ....
A new poker room, off the main casino floor, is expected to open later next year."

In the current atmosphere of poker rooms closing, the Sahara is planning to open a poker room next year.
