It's a small place so don't expect too much variety. My wife plays penny slots and she was entertained for a couple hours.

A couple of hours would do it! Thank you!

Yes they still have it. I think it is $12.99 to start with. Then place your players club card into a kiosk for the $9.99 coupon. Then with your players card in a machine (slots or VP), play $5 thru win or lose. Then go back to the kiosk and print the $7.99 coupon. It used to be good for up to 4 people. It's not as difficult as it sounds.

It is still offered, but to receive the best price ($7.99) you need to swipe your slot card and then play $5 through a slot or video poker machine.

I've always had a blast at Ellis Island. My brother-in-law and I always walk there during our November trip. It's a decent walk from the strip (depending on where you're staying), but we've never cabbed it.
The food is very inexpensive and decent for the price, and I like their beers. We've also both had winning sessions there (I believe) every time.
This last November we were both playing quarter DW and he drew 4 to the Royal. He nailed the 5th card. He immediately starts sprinting around the casino. Within about 30 minutes 4 of the 5 pop up on my machine. I asked him if he could do it again and sure enough, he hits the deal/draw and the 5th card pops up. This time we both start going crazy. A couple guys from their security staff came over but were super cool and were congratulating us.

We were playing machines directly in front of Julio's Tacos, so made it easy for us to eat as we played. I have video and pictures of this session so I'll try to figure out how to post them at some point.
Several years ago we were there while they were doing Karaoke. Some seriously talented singers! (and a few not-so talented.)

This trip I may walk there solo, but doubt if I'll walk back if it's late. As mentioned, it's a jog from the strip and the traffic whips right by the curb. I'd also like to try Batista's on the way if it works out.

    Cheers!

Batistas isn't the best Italian food around but it is a glimpse into old Vegas. I haven't been there in a few years now, I wonder if the old accordion player is still there.

Ellis Island reminds me of a typical neighborhood bar/restaurant that happens to have gambling because it is in Vegas. Nothing flashy, comfort food at a decent price and a bar with lots of regulars. Nothing wrong with that but when I'm out of town in Vegas or wherever, personally I seek out places that are different from what I can readily get at home.

You get free play for signing up for a players card there and that is the only reason why I MIGHT stop in along with the other not as popular casinos nearby behind flamingo and balleys to see if I can win any free money. I found the info here http://www.americancasinoguide.com/vegas-values/ongoing-las-vegas-casino-promotions.html

Ellis Island: New members signing up for the Passport Player’s Club who play at least $1 coin in will receive a FREE play spin where they can get anywhere from $10 free play up to $500. Everyone is a winner. Also, you will receive a $1 off any restaurant entree with at least $1 coin in. #10114

Ellis Island: The great $7.99 steak special has been raised to $12.99, but everyone can swipe their players card to get $3 off for $9.99. Whereas you used to be able to get an additional $2 off by playing $1 in a machine, that requirement has been raised to $5 (which costs about 10 cents in expected value). Bottom line: You can still get the steak dinner for $7.99, but you have to make a $5 lay down to get it. One per person. #051015"

Is the BBQ really that good? I read good thinks and since Im staying at Ballys next week I figured it would be worth the 5 min walk.

It's a matter of taste I guess. I think it's good but not great ribs however a very good value.
